For those little hayfever sufferers
Member Name: PerfectPeaches
Disadvantages: Thin consistency
My daughter has recently been told by her doctor that she seems to be suffering with hayfever which is of no surprise as I suffer with it too. Being only 20 months old she is unable to pinpoint her exact symptoms but her little eyes go red and her nose starts streaming and of course she is quite visibly suffering and of course as a parent I want to make her as comfortable as possible as it is never nice to see your child in any discomfort. Our doctor recommended that we try Piriton Syrup which has been specifically designed for children over 12 months of age so within a matter of a few hours we had been to Boots and purchased a bottle.
I think most of us have heard of the brand Piriton, they are a nationwide supplier of all products made to combat allergies whether to do with pets, hayfever and even mould spore allergies. Whether you want a small tablet to take or swallow the syrup they make products to help ease any discomfort that the allergies may bring. Their products are widely available in supermarkets and pharmacies and obviously the internet so you won't be hard pushed to find one of their products.
Piriton Syrup as stated above has been specifically formulated for children over the age of 12 months so my daughter is more than old enough to have this. It is supposed to help relieve the symptoms of hayfever and other allergies such as house dust/mites as well as nettle rashes, heat rashes, reactions to food and insect bites to name just a few so it isn't a sole health product for hayfever which is good as it is very versatile. Even though it has been branded for children it can be taken by adults too so it isn't limited to just children.
The syrup comes in a dark brown transparent plastic bottle which seems quite robust and comes with a security cap which to undo you need to push down as you are twisting it round. Ideal when it comes to little hands wanting to unscrew the cap! The box it comes in is a orange/gold themed coloured box which features the Piriton logo together with a little image of a baby's face on the middle together with the item name. All around the sides of the box is the usual information one would expect with a health product such as warnings, dosage advice and ingredients etc. There is a more information leaflet inside the box should you want to learn more about the item.
1-2 years - max 2 x 2.5ml spoonfuls in 24 hours
2-6 years - max 6 x 2.5ml spoonfuls in 24 hours
6-12 years - max 6 x 5ml spoonfuls in 24 hours
12 years + - max 12 x 5ml spoonfuls in 24 hours
The syrup itself is hardly of a syrup consistency so don't be fooled when you pour it onto the spoon as you may find you end up spilling some of it as I did when I first tipped up the bottle expecting something far thicker, in fact it has a similar consistency to a normal cough medicine something not as thin as water but not far off! However, my daughter doesn't have an issue with taking the spoonful so I can't moan! The syrup is completely clear in colour and has an aroma which reminds me of linseed. It isn't an overly noticeable aroma but for some reason it reminds me of something with a linseed aroma which to be far makes a change from the usual orange or strawberry flavoured products for kids!
My daughter has no problem taking a small spoonful of this syrup which as a parent makes my life a lot easier trying to get her to take something which will hopefully make her feel a bit better. Because of her age the bottle manages to last quite a while and I very rarely give her the maximum dosage for her age as I simply don't think she needs it. The syrup is quickly swallowed and it doesn't take long for me to notice the changes in my daughter which is obviously great. No longer is she rubbing her eyes and her nose has stopped streaming which for me as a parent is great to see that a health product is actually working and of course it is nice to see my daughter visibly happier that she doesn't have sore, itchy eyes.
Overall, I don't doubt whatsoever that this works for my daughter and although she doesn't take it on a daily basis as I give it to her when I see fit it definitely works and lasts throughout the days that she does have it. It provides her with the relief she needs which overall makes for a happier child so I would highly recommend this for any child suffering with hayfever - I can't comment on other allergies as my daughter doesn't have any. I have myself tried and tested this syrup just to see what it is like for an adult but for me it had minimal effect and I had to keep having another dose every few hours so for me personally this isn't great but for my daughter it works a treat. Definitely a recommendation for parents with children who are hayfever sufferers. 5 stars from me.
