Advantages: a multivitamin with probiotics
Disadvantages: didn't make a difference to my health, tablets are hard to swallow
I work in an environment where the air conditioning is always on and there always seems to be a member of staff ill at any given time. Due to a combination of being around people who have been unwell and the lack of sleep I am getting as my Son doesn't sleep through at nights, it all took it's toll on me and a few months ago I ended up having a viral infection which made me quite ill and almost wiped me out for a week. When I started to recover (after a few days of taking anti-sickness tablets) my Doctor recommended that I take a multivitamin to try and prevent me from getting run down again.
Having seen an advert for Multibionta, I decided to buy Multibionta Advanced Formula as they were promoting their '14 day challenge or your money back' campaign. To be honest, I was sucked in by their campaign and this is the only reason why I bought Multibionta over any other tub of multivitamins. Multibionta are made by Seven Seas who are well established within the field of vitamins.
Multibionta Advanced Formula vitamins are sold in a Blue cardboard box and the vitamins are packaged in plastic tubs (which can be recycled). They are more expensive than other multivitamins as a tub of 28 tablets cost £3.29 at Tesco's.
Multibionta claims to be the first complete probiotic multivitamin. Their multivitamins contain a Tribion Harmonis blend of probiotics (Yes, I'm not too sure what Tribion Harmonis is either - but it sounds like a Shampoo!). Each three layered tablet contains all of the recommended vitamins at 100% of the Recommended Daily Allowance as well as other important nutrients and Probiotics to help you cope with a hectic lifestyle.
I am not going to list all the vitamins and minerals as there too are many, however here are a few: Vitamins A, B complex, C, D, E, Folic Acid, Iron, Magnesium, Selenium and Zinc.
As the '14 day challenge' campaign suggests, you need to take them for at least 2 weeks to notice a benefit. Multibionta needs to be taken daily with water, before or with food. You mustn't take them with a hot drink as I presume that this reduces the effectiveness of the multivitamin. Multibionta needs to be taken in addition to eating a balanced diet and shouldn't replace fresh fruit and veg.
The vitamins don't have an after taste and they don't repeat on you throughout the day, unlike cod liver oil etc. In terms of the tablets, the tablets are huge and are like horse pills! If you have trouble swallowing a small paracetamol tablet then there is no way you will swallow one of these.
Two months into taking Multibionta I woke up with a sore throat and generally felt unwell, so I took Ibuprofen to help relieve the symptoms and prevent my sore throat from getting worse, as this usually helps. About 3 days later I had a terrible cold, had sickness and felt run down again. If this was a 'one-off' bout of illness I wouldn't have minded, but since taking Multibionta I have been feeling quite tired, I don't feel my usual 'well' self and have picked up more colds.
So, after taking Multibionta Advanced Formula daily for over 3 months do I feel any different? The answer to that is simply 'no'. I feel completely indifferent. I am not saying that Multibionta is ineffective and doesn't work; it just doesn't seem to be making any difference to my health, however other people I know swear by them. Ok, I do have a little one running around and don't have as much time to myself as I used to, but I continue to have a healthy(ish) lifestyle, but can't seem to fend off the colds and bugs that seem to be everywhere.
I would rate Multibionta 2 stars as they don't seem to be making a difference to my health at present. Perhaps it's the time of year with so many bugs and illnesses around and maybe had I taken Multibionta in Spring, I may have noticed an improvement in my general well being. These are not something I am going to continue taking, however others may feel a benefit from taking Multibionta.
Other products in the Multibionta range include:
Multibionta Extra plus Omega 3, Multibionta 50+, Multibionta 50+ plus Glucosamine, Multibionta Activate and Multibionta Immune
