I was recommended to take Spatone by my doctor after my iron levels dropped during pregnancy and I became slightly anaemic. Iron is an important mineral for the body and a lack of iron can manifest in symptoms such as fatigue, breathlessness and dizziness as your body struggles to deliver oxygen around the body. Vegetarians and pregnant women are particularly prone to anaemia but really anybody can benefit from a gentle iron supplement such as Spatone especially if you are particularly active or over 60. Spatone can be found in most pharmacies such as Boots and Lloyds but I have also spotted it in my local Wilkinsons and Savers. It comes generally in boxes of ... Read the complete review

As a lifelong vegetarian although I am happy following this way of life sometimes I think it causes tiredness as it is difficult to eat enough iron when you are obtaining it purely from vegetable sources. It isn't usually a severe problem as I am careful to plan meals, but as an extra safeguard I like to take an iron supplement to prevent deficiencies. So just a word first about iron and what it does in the body. Iron is a trace element which is needed by the body as part of the process in which blood is formed. More than half of the iron we have is in the form of haemoglobin which is what makes our blood red. Haemoglobin transports oxygen from the lungs ... Read the complete review

As I have a very active lifestyle an iron supplement is absolutely indispensable for me - I find that I get anaemic very easily, and anaemia and an active lifestyle are absolutely incompatible. I first tried Spatone when some sachets of it were given away free at the London Marathon expo. The marketing worked, because as soon as I tried it I knew it was a great product. It doesn't smell too appealing but when you put it in a glass of orange juice you can't tell it's there at all, and you certainly can't taste it. It is incredibly gentle on your stomach and I've certainly never had any digestive issues resulting from taking it. In terms of how ... Read the complete review

Like many people I have a problem taking Iron supplements as it usually causes terrible constipation and headaches. However, finding out recently that I need extra help with iron now that I am pregnant I was recommended Spatone Iron+ by a friend that has had the same problem. They come in boxes of 28 and are individual sachets of mineral water which contain the added iron. One sachet a day, taken on its own or with fruit juice is enough to keep your iron levels at a normal level and without the added worry of the painful side effect that most iron supplements can cause. On their own they taste slightly metalic but I take mine with a glass of fruit ... Read the complete review

I love Spatone, it's fab. The reason it is fab, is that it means I didn't have to take hideous constipating iron tablets all through 3 pregnancies. It comes as a little sachet with some water inside. The water is from a spring (oop north somewhere I believe!) that is very high in iron. Its a different iron compound to the one they put in iron tablets, and is more easily absorbed by the body. So you need less of it to get iron, and most importantly, you don't get constipated. Constipation from iron tablets arises from the body not being able to absorb the iron and just sending it straight on through - you don't have that problem with Spatone. Funnily ...
