Advantages: Easy to take

Disadvantages: Not the full RDA

As I have described in another one of my reviews I do tend to suffer from low energy levels during the winter months, and had self diagnosed and have since been diagnosed with anaemia (low levels of iron in the blood) iron is a vital substance for the human body as it necessary in the production of hemoglobin. The general population get most of their iron from consuming red meat such as beef, but a diet high in processed foods, that contain more sugar than any thing else doest supply the body with what it needs and unfortunately that type of diet is more common the world over than a healthy balanced diet. Vegetarians can become low in iron as it's harder to naturally keep their iron levels high while consuming a fruit and vegetable only diet (harder but not impossible, it is even more difficult for vegans as they cant consume eggs for example). Iron levels in vegetarians and vegans can become dangerously low in females for obvious monthly reasons.

I began to notice a strong feeling of lethargy coming over me during a hard time my family was going through some years back. I decided to try and give my self a lift by taking these iron supplements, anemia can even be visible to other people as it was in me, dark circles under the eyes, pale almost translucent skin and discolouration lack of pigment in the lips can be tell tail signs.

Spatone is different to other brands of iron supplement firstly it gets it's iron from a natural water source in Snowdonia one of the most beautiful places around. It comes in a distinctive orange topped box, this makes it very easy to find on the shelf as it jumps out at you from between the more sedately packaged supplements. This isn't a pill like most iron supplements, this comes in a water soluble powder form. Inside the orange box you will find fourteen individual sachets each containing 5mg of iron. This isn't the full recommended daily allowance but it is enough if you are consuming some iron rich foods during the day such as red meat, nuts and green leafy vegetables. I used to take one sachet mixed in a glass of water, the powered dissolved quickly and it's easy to drink, it has a taste, a little bitter but not revolting.

*** Please note ***

It is important not to take this supplement in conjunction with a once a day multivitamin. Most multivitamins have the full recommended daily amount of iron and then taking any other iron product on top of that can induce fainting episodes and excessive intake can even be fatal. Iron is a highly dangerous substance if overdosed. Please keep all supplements up and out of reach of children.

I found these did give me a slight boost while taking them for a few months but I have since moved on to a full RDA prescribed iron pill as they just weren't strong enough for my needs as I was already anemic. However if you are in good health and just want to top up your iron levels these are a lighter version than a lot of the products available and may be of use to you.
