Advantages: Cheap-ish

Disadvantages: Incompetent opticians, rude staff, long waiting times, totally disorganised

I went to Specsavers in Guildford, and they are the most incompetent opticians I have ever dealt with in 19 years of wearing lenses. Their eye tests were incorrect - I had to go in three times to get it sorted out. Then they made up my glasses incorrectly twice. By this stage I was so frustrated I went to the Wimbledon branch for them to make up my glasses. Guess what - they made them up incorrectly too! Then Specsavers Guildford gave me the wrong contact lenses, and so the story goes on... To add insult to injury, EVERY time I have phoned them with a problem, I have been treated with the utmost disrespect. Their staff are rude and just don't care. Their booking system is a shambles and you will wait for about an hour for your appointment. Other people sitting around me were also complaining about the service, etc. DON'T go to Specsavers. They may be cheap, but you get what you pay for.

Summary: Avoid, especially if you're new to eye care as you won't know when you're getting bad service!

I totally agree. I used to work for specsavers as an optometrist and the staff are very poorly trained compared to other multiples such as VE and D&A. All branches are franchises so the optometrist or manager owns the practcise and so they are more interested in selling you something you dont actually need. Very rarely will they let anyone walk out without a new pair of glasses or without giving the optometrist the third degree as to why the customer did not purchase glasses (thats if the optometrist is not the franchisee)

I used to work at various specsavers practices throughout the south east and east midlands and most of the stores were like that. i have to be honest and say very few were actually honest and well trained.

I was a locum optometrist at one particular branch and i was told by the manager (who used to be a retail manager at a shoe shop a few doors away) that i must make sure the patient buys glasses.

So a granny will come in for an eye test with glaucoma, diabetes and cataracts and i HAD to sell her glasses. I had to explain myself to this tart (with no qualifications either medical or managerial) why i did not get a sale out of this sweet old lady!!

But other companies.... nothing of the sort and i am in a position to verify this.I have worked for all the large multiples for many years in all parts of the country.

SO YES......... AVOID SPECSAVERS AT ALL COSTS.
