Advantages: Price, quality, service
Disadvantages: None
I've had to wear specs for about the last twelve years, and the last five of those I've been with Specsavers. Yes, they're cheap, but in my opinion, that doesn't affect the quality of either the product or the service on offer. I get my specs from them, and I also get contact lenses. I pay £10 a month for my contact lenses, on this gives me the lenses, the cleaners, replacement lenses, check-ups and appointments. I also get half price specs through this.
Every year I get a letter in asking me to get my eyes checked. Now, I live in Scotland, so this is free, however, as long as you've got an up to date prescription, they're fine. I also get an annual contact lens check, to make sure the lenses aren't having any negative effects on my eye health, and to make sure that the contact lens prescription is still ok. In order for me to be in the contact lens programme I'm in, you need to attend these appointments, although I've never not attended, so I'm not sure exactly what would happen if you didn't. The way I see it, I've paid for these appointments, and it's all for the good of my health, so why shouldn't I go!
My contact lenses and cleaners are delivered to my door every three months. They package them in a way that it easily fits through the door, saving you from having to go to the post office if you're not in when they're delivered. Well, that's the theory, however, my postie decided that he might wake me up by posting them, so left them at the sorting office instead!
When I first decided to go for contact lenses, it was with Specsavers, and they talked me through exactly what was involved, and also gave me detailed practical demonstrations on how to put them in and take them out, not letting me leave until they'd seen me successfully do so three times!
The quality of the lenses is good, I suppose, although I don't really have anything to compare them with. I certainly haven't had any problems with them. I have asked for a replacement a couple of times, because I've managed to lose one (no idea how!), and it hasn't been a problem.
As for specs, I got as much help as I needed. I took a friend in with me to help me out, and as we decided to think about it over lunch, the staff were more than happy to put the ones we were thinking about aside, so that we didn't have to try to remember which frames we were considering. All questions were answered honestly, with specific coatings not being promoted, and reasons for this so that you could make an informed decision.
The pricing is very clear - you know exactly what you're paying for and there's no hidden extras which appear in the final bill. I've never had a problem with my specs, despite constantly falling aslepp with them still on, so the quality seems to be good.
Summary: Clear pricing for great service and products.
