Advantages: Friendly, put me at ease, sight test not too long, good range of glasses & offers, work paid for mine
Disadvantages: They told me I needed to wear glasses ( I already knew that though so not really a disadvantage!)
I hadn't been to an opticians for around 6 years so was a bit nervous about going, but I knew that working on a computer for the best part of the day over the last 8 years had made my eyes weaker and my eyesight wasn't quite as sharp as it used to be. Because I work on a computer at my job, my employers pay for an eye test for me, as long as you use Specsavers.
I had never been to Specsavers before, but seeing as my eyes have been playing up and work was paying, I thought it was about time I paid them a visit.
I was very impressed with the customer service when I phoned them up for an appointment, and I was able to get an appointment for the following week at a time that was suitable for me. The day before my appointment, I received a text message on my mobile phone just reminding me of my appointment date and time which although I had remembered, was a good piece of customer service.
I was very nervous about my appointment, but I didn't need to be. All the staff were very friendly and the branch was busy but had a really good atmosphere and I didn't have to wait for anyone to take my details at the reception desk. I sat down for about 2 minutes before being called in for my eye test.
The optician was really friendly and put me at ease straight away. The eye test was simple and painless and only took around 15 minutes. The outcome of my eye test was what I had expected anyway, that I am slightly short sighted which has occurred from doing constant close up work. She told me that I would need some glasses to wear for distances such as driving. I was passed on to another advisor who showed me the range of £45 glasses. My firm will pay for glasses in the £45 range for me too, but anything over that they will put £20 to. The optician recommended that because the glasses would only be for occasional use it is better to have something from the cheaper range (and let work pay for them!). Although this range is quite limited, she advised me what sort of styles would suit me and I agreed with her opinion and chose a pair of glasses within minutes.
She sat me down and sorted out my prescription and advised me that the glasses would be ready in a week.
All the staff were really friendly and helpful and although I now have to wear glasses occasionally, I didn't have to pay anything and it was the outcome that I was expecting. I would definitely recommend Specsavers as a good place to get your eyes tested. There are always really good deals on glasses too, such as two for one and reductions on certain frames. The frames that I chose were actually designer frames and were usually £120 but as they are now discontinued, they have been reduced and put into the £45 range.
The staff at Specsavers will put you at ease and the eye tests are so simple, nothing to worry about. You can be assured that you are in good hands and they will give you the best advise for your eyes.
Summary: A friendly place with lots of good offers on glasses if you need them.
