Advantages: For me none

Disadvantages: They fail to get my glasses right on 3 different occasions

I cannot comment on all Specsavers Opticians as they are franchises, I can only comment on the local one which I have visited on 3 occasions.

I have worn glasses for over 30 years and purchased a number of different styles from various high street and independent Optician and I have never experienced the problems I have in recent years.

Over the last 3 years I seem to have had entirely the wrong impression of Specsavers as their advertising suggests that my glasses would be cheaper.

I have purchased 4 pairs of glasses from Specsavers and there has always been a problem with the lenses. The problems I have experienced are blurring on all occasions, difficultly focusing and blurred peripheral vision and on one occasion they glazed the left lens in to the right side of the frame and so on. Each time they have replaced the lenses at least 3 times before I have been able to see properly. I do have complex lenses and Specsavers have always advised that it is difficult to get my prescription correct, thought all the other opticians have got them correct first time.

My most recent experience has led me to return to my previous Optician as I has was not able to see at all though my new glasses which cost me £375 and I was made to feel that I was making a fuss. These were never corrected and after 12 months of going in and getting them adjusted and having the lenses replaced, they are still in pristine condition in the case. I eventually had to go elsewhere as I could no longer function in my old scratched glassed. I am fussy about my glasses and sight as they are important to me and I am not lucky enough to have anywhere near 20/20 vision.

Upon returning to my previous Optician I was surprised to find that not only where they more helpful, I found their prescription differ quite a lot to the prescription I had from Specsavers and my glasses were cheaper at £270 and most importantly I can see.

I will not be returning to Specsavers as I have learnt my lesson, it is never wise to trade off service for cost.

As you can see I have found both cost and service better elsewhere.

I am glad that others have had a better experience than I have, but I guess it is a case of some branches are much better than others.

Jojo

Summary: Specsavers - poor quality, poor service
