Advantages: Cheap glasses

Disadvantages: Appalling service

I was short of cash and desperately needed a new pair of glasses, so with some misgivings I went to Specsavers. I say misgivings as I have had glasses from there before and I was not impressed with the glasses or the fitting.

I found a pair for £45 (a real bargain) and went to order them.

The order took ages to process and the assistant was surly and uninterested, he would not be hurried despite the fact that my two children were screaming the shop down (it was dinner time). I was told the glasses would be ready on wednesday.

I later decided to have my glasses delivered to my local store and was told that this was fine and would take an extra day.

On Thursday I went to collect my glasses (It was pouring with rain and I would not have gone out otherwise) and surprise, surprise they were still at the original branch.

A few heated words were spoken during which I told them in no uncertain terms that this was their mistake and I now wanted my glasses delivered to me instead. They agreed to this and they were delivered early the next day.

Today I eventually got around to having them fitted. The branch was very busy and myself and an elderly gentleman stood for 10 minutes to be served no one said "be with you in a minute" or even acknowledged that we were there!

When the assistant served us she said "Hi" and not "sorry to have kept you waiting".

Yes Specsavers are cheap, but the service is always terrible, I have even heard a member of staff being disciplined in front of a shopful of customers - disgraceful!

My father-in-law had glasses from Specsavers which were quite new, but he damaged them. He couldn't get to his local branch (which is 25 miles away) so he went to another opticians in the town, they were aghast when they tested his eyes and compared them to his specs, it was as if they had been prescribed for another customer. He was told they were nowhere near the correct strength!

I have been to specsavers just once. And they were quite rude to me after my eye test as my company had requested to see the prescription certificate before giving me vouchers towards glasses. (the company I worked for put a percentage towards the cost if you operated a vdu which I did at the time) They didn't seem to want me to leave with the prescription and no purchase but you are aloud to do this by law now which I told them and they gave in reluctantly!

I believe anyone who writes opinions which are as critical as this one has a point to make and I take notice of them, so should you. Good work.
