Advantages: The sales staff were understanding and went through the figures with me
Disadvantages: No director available for comment.
Specsavers/Great yarmouth
Acuvue Oasys lenses 3months supply £75.00
Tescos £37.50 first 3months then £33.00 on line
Having realised I have been paying a 100% mark up on my lenses for a year I was convinced it was a genuine mistake as I had changed my prescription over on the advice of my specsavers optician.
I was advised the lenses were ordered in, no problem, however was not told there would have been a 100% mark up!!!!
I only found out this information on thursday last week, and have been in communication with the staff at Great Yarmouth, however after spending most of friday researching this matter I was told by the supervisor of the branch that the director confirmed that no mistake had been made and the price of £75 charged to me for 3 months supply was correct, 6 pairs of lenses. I am in the process of sending my complaint in writing.
When I went to Specsavers I was new to the area, having lived abroad for 13 years and had faith in their reputation as providing the best service and prices to their customers.
I was recommended the Oasys lenses, which are great, however at no time was I given a comparable specsavers lens in order to choose which would be the best price for me. I took them in good faith that they were getting the best price for me.... I now have found out orders come from the same warehouse, a company the size of Specsavers would surely pass on the best price right???...no it would appear they can charge what they like..which totally goes against their advertising and marketing campaign.....even the sales assistant was embarrassed by the mark up herself and had my details ready so I could go straight to tescos; which I did.
How ironic in these times there are traders in Great Yarmouth desparately finding ways to keep customers and yet Specsavers, through their own greed are doing their best to lose theirs!
Is it the policy of Specsavers to mark up Acuvue lenses by 100% to it's customers or just the franchise in Great Yarmouth???
I am now with Tescos, I paid £37.50 for my first three months and the rest will be on line for £33.00 per month.......for 6 months I will pay £66.00...still £9.00 less than Specsavers for 3 months!!!
I have taken this matter up with the Consumer Advice network and my complaint has been forwarded to the OFT
Summary: Specsavers are not the best or the cheapest
