Advantages: Good service, friendly staff
Disadvantages: None
I know alot of people have reviewed Specsavers and there are alot of mixed reviews about them. I suppose it depends on which one you have been to in the past. I am going to review the one in Gainsborough, Lincolnshire which is where i live. Its actually a pretty new addition to the town and easy to get to from where i live with plenty of parking.
Not too long ago i started suffering from headaches and working at a computer 9 hours a day wasnt helping much. The last time i had an eye test was in 2003 so i thought it was abut time a bit the bullet and booked myself into the opticians, especially seen as i found myself squinting with my glasses on, not a good sign.
I contacted Specsavers on the Monday to book an appointment and managed to get one for 9am the next morning. When i arrived i was taken straight away to one of the little desks at the back of the room where i gave a few details and handed over my glasses. I was then taken to a dark room for some initial tests. I was told to look into this really big machine and hold onto a clicking device and everytime i saw something move i was supposed to press the clicker. I was then moved across to another machine where i was told to rest my chin on the bar and that air was going to be blown into my eye which might make me jump. MIGHT? i jumped out of my skin when she did it. Its was extremely unpleasant and i had to sit there while it was done 3 times to each eye. Now that i did not like, i found myself wanting to close my eyes before she could hit the button but i fought through it. Apparently this was to test for Glaucoma which thankfully i did not have.
I was then taking into another room for the eye test. I was in there for about 20 minutes while i went through a series of different tests. Theses werent too bad and it turns out my glasses were not strong enough anymore so this may have been a factor in my headaches.
I was then taken back into the shop where the sales women showed me which glasses were which. From the cheaper brands to the designer brands. The prices ranged from £40 up to £125 and if you bought a pair for £75 up then you could buy one get one free. I was in the shop for ages trying to find an exact pair i liked. At one point i had 3 members off staff helping me. There were some pairs i liked but could not have as the lenses were classed as too wide for my face, apparently (something i didnt know) your eye has to measure up to the middle of the lense. So this was when things got tricky. One of the saleswomen went out the back and bought through a number of different styles and shapes and i finally found 2 pairs that were suitable and that i like. I was asked if i'd like anti glare lenses which would cost an extra £15.00 but i decided not to have that. So i paid for my glasses which were £125 for 2 pairs and were told they would be ready in about a week.
It was on the third day that i got a phonecall to say they were ready. I couldnt believe how quick it was. So went straight there after work to pick them up. When i got there the lady i saw sat me down and got me to try each pair on and adjusted them accordingly. It was a little difficult to answer when she asked if they were ok as the lenses were stronger and made me feel a little queasy but all in all they seemed ok. I was told if there were any problems to come back and see them and they would do their best to help.
After a week of wearing the glasses they were causing me a bit of discomfort as they were digging into my head behind my ears. I went back to the shop where they were adjusted straight away and i havent had any problems since.
The eyetest cost me £15.00 which i thought was very reasonable and had expected it to be more. I found the service really good and the staff extremely helpful and very patient and i will go back in 2 years for my next test.
Summary: I would recommend this branch

- 16/07/09 I find it quite hit and miss between branches - some are brilliant, others barely acceptable. Nicely covered. 8^) |

- 16/07/09 I have always found specsavers reliable and helpful, they don't pressurise you to buy the most expensive frames either. |
