Advantages: Easy to pop into whilst shopping in town

Disadvantages: Very busy on Saturdays

I had my eyes tested for the second time at Specsavers a couple of months ago now. Again I was impressed with the actual eye-sight test. The optician (or whatever they call themselves these days!) tested me on various pieces of equipment which seemed almost space age in comparision to the eye-tests of my younger days (how OLD does that make me sound!!!!!!), but what impressed me most is that they picked up on a whitish arc around my pupil which can be a sign of cholesterol and duly recommended a visit to my GP - I did follow this up and all was fine. She also picked up a fairly rare condition I have had since birth with my bones which shows up with the schlera (whites of the eyes) being blue - over all the years I have had eye tests and they total over thirty years - Specsavers have been the only optician to pick this up and I have always had it - they mentioned it both times I have had eye tests with them.

I chose my glasses with the help of an assistant, they suit my face and were not the most expensive in the range - I am suspicious when the person selling 'recommends' the best for you as all so often it is the most expensive thus meaning more profit for them!!!

Anyway I digress - I chose my second pair and was very pleased to find that the price I saw was the price I paid - no extra cash needed for the anti-scratch coating - 2 years ago I had to pay extra for this on both pairs of glasses.

My glasses were ready to collect the next day (I could have had them later that day but I couldn't get back). They were checked for correct fitting and were easy to adapt to as my prescription hadn't changed too much.

I admit to being a bit of a slob with my specs and wear them on my head when not reading with them - I work in a nursery which has 30% special need children, so my specs often get grabbed off my head and flung across the floor by the children and I usually just throw them into my handbag without any case - amazingly - there isn't a scratch in sight - so the anti-scratch coating really does work - it has well and truly put to the test.

My advise would be to avoid Saturdays if at all possible as they (the Stockport branch anyway) gets very busy.

Summary: It's surprising what Specsavers can see in your eyes!!
