Advantages: Friendly

Disadvantages: Useless, liars

Now I've been with Specsavers for years at my previous address, and all has been fine ordering contact lenses through them and never having to visit a branch. As long as they had my money and I have my contact lenses all was fine.

The first hurdle came into moving away to university. It is here I found out Specsavers is a franchise and such communication between branches is not the best. After a lot of faffing between the home and uni branches, I found the only way to assure I would get my contact lenses would be if I rang the home branch, they ordered my lenses and would post them to me when they arrived by recorded delivery which I would have to pay for. This added £4 on to my bill and about 5 working days, not brilliant but still I stuck with them.

Then a friend told me she had been getting the same lenses she gets from her opticians but much cheaper from other sites over the internet. I thought I'd save myself a packet and do the save, but she warned me getting Specsavers to give me my prescription would be difficult.

The first 3 attempts at this involved me ringing back and forth between the home and uni branches to get my prescription- which they said they couldn't release over the phone so would post to me. Prescription doesn't arrive, they say it's definetly in the post. Prescription doesn't arrive, they say they had the wrong address. Prescription doesn't arrive, they decide they can't actually give me the precription!

It was only after cornering someone at the uni branch I found out they haven't actually sent anything because my prescription is out of date. I said I ordered contact lenses from you less that 3 months ago with that prescription- how can you sell me something which you then won't release the details of? Specsavers (conveniantly) decide that I must have bought these lenses in the last week of my prescription so they must not be in the wrong.

All I wanted was my old prescription so I say you are legally obliged to give me my prescription. They say they are not legally obliged to give me an old prescription and say that no one else will legally let me buy contacts lenses with it!

After a lot of faffing again they book me in for an eye test and contact lens check up to get my prescription. I say I cannot wait for an eye test and then ordering lenses and waiting for them to arrive- I need them for work within the week. So, the icing on the cake, after I'd PAID for my appointment they SHOW ME this illegal prescription they have been trying so hard to hide, and then ORDER ME SOME NICE NEW ILLEGAL CONTACT LENSES that apparently other people would get into trouble for supplying me with??

And the fun didn't end there, when I had paid £75 for my appointments and a months supply of lenses, all my test showed was that my prescription hadn't changed!

They really are money grabbing b******ds. From trying to upsell you when you buy your glasses to lying about prescriptions thinking you won't find out. I have given them 2 stars as most of the time they are polite even if they are talking rubbish- but 3 less stars for lack of any sort of moral code!

Summary: Get your prescription and run!

Your title is probably the best description of SpecSavers I have ever come across. LOL. 8^)

I remember when a friend of mine switched to getting lenses online, he had similar problems with the prescription.
