Advantages: Professional service and affordable prices
Disadvantages: Slight delay in obtaining glasses
After putting up with head aches on an almost daily basis and being knackered at the end of the day I decided recently it was time to get my eyes tested. I work in an office and stare a pc screen for the most part of the day so I put two and two together and guessed my job wasn't doing my eye health much good.
An eye test revealed that surprise, surprise I'm long sighted and I would benefit from glasses for short distance work such as using a computer and reading. I was rather gutted initially at the realisation I would need specs but grew to accept it and actually looked forward to choosing my first pair of "windows"
I had my eye test done at Vision Express as I just happened to spot them on the high street and they had a spot open there and then. However when it came to choosing and buying my glasses I decided instead to go to Spec Savers as some colleages had recommended them for their good customer service and their low prices.
I went along to my local branch this morning with my partner intending to have a look at the range of glasses on offer then have a look elsewhere to compare prices. Well on entering the store I soon realised I was in the right place and didn't need to look anywhere else.
There was a huge range of frames on offer, ranging in price from just £25 a pair to £125 for designer ones. I'm not designer label minded so stayed away from those instead veering towards the cheaper ones.
After looking over the vast range on offer for around 5 minutes we were approached by a smiley member of staff who asked if we needed any help. He explained the special offer available meaning you could choose two pairs of specs for the price of one. I was impressed with this as it meant I could have one pair at home another in my desk draw (meaning I wouldn't have the need to actually carry my glasses anywhere and risk losing them)
It took me a while to pick two pairs I liked and that suited me. Once I had I was quickly shown to a private area of the store to go over my choices to ensure that they were right for me and also to explain how the ordering process worked.
It's simple at spec savers: you choose your frames, then your lense options and any extras then are told the final price being committing yourself. There are no hidden extras the staff are up front about all the costs. It took 10 minutes to order my glasses at which point I was told they would be ready by Thursday to collect. I was expecting to have to wait up to a couple of weeks.
In the end I paid £144 for two pairs of glasses with special coated lenses to reflect glare. It's a lot of money to me but good value for two pairs of specs that I hope will help my vision and prevent future headaches and other problems.
I would recommend Spec Savers to anyone looking for glasses (or contact lenses) they are professional and reasonably priced.
Summary: Worth a try
