Advantages: Huge Range
Disadvantages: Long eye test waiting times
My visit to the opticians I was long overdue - I had not even been wearing the last pair when I really should have - so thought I would pop in my local Specsavers to see what they had on offer. I was amazed at the wide range of glasses they had to offer and the promotions made their glasses really good value compared to their competitors like Vision Express, Optical Express and Dolland and Achison.
I visited my local branch on a Sunday to browse around so it was not really busy. The one thing I hate when I go shopping is being hounded by the staff but during my two hour visit to Specsavers I was only approached once upon entering the shop. This enabled me to choose the pairs I wanted without feeling pressured. The staff were very friendly and only too happy to help.
I took advantage of their 2 for 1 offer - their glasses start at an impressive £59 which are usually not very modern going up to £99 and then their designer ranges start at £129 - these are also in their 2 for 1 offer.
The range of specs were so large that I had eight pairs that I really liked and after a lot of 'what ones do you prefer, these ones, or these ones? - I gradually whittled them down to my two favourite pairs. One quirky pair and a smart pair for work.
Once I had chosen them I enquired about an eye test which I know I should really have done first but I was just making sure that they had pairs that I liked. I was advised that they had a three week waiting list for an eye test. The staff were more than happy for me to have an eye test elsewhere and bring back my prescription. Once I had done this I went back to order the glasses and paid a deposit. They then sit you down and take various measurements and make sure that the glasses are right for you.
I opted out of the anti-glare as I have found that this wears off after a while and you cannot do anything about this and can look rather unsightly.
Within 24 hours I received a call saying that my glasses were ready to pick up. Upon pickup they check to make sure they fit ok and made some minor alterations and I was on my way. They even supplied me with hard cases for both pairs of glasses and some micro-fibre cloths.
Nine months later both pairs of spectacles are in great condition and I am sure they will last me many more years to come.
As their advertising suggests - you should have gone to Specsavers!
Summary: Spec appeal!
