Advantages: They are cheap but this cheapness doesn't effect the quality of service.

Disadvantages: It takes ages to choose two pairs for the price of one!

When choosing an optician the first thing I do will be to visit several around the town centre and simply look at the range of frame styles on display.

I have over the years had my glasses bought for me by my parents, been a poor student choosing styles, had a little money to treat myself, and been unemployed and counting those pennies. Therefore to say that I keep coming back to specsavers just because they're the cheapest highstreet optician doesn't hold much water. I really feel that they offer the best range and the best service out there.

Specsavers certainly made their name as the budget option for the visually impaired but I have never felt that to choose from their range meant compromising on style. Other highstreet names seem to rely on stocking designer frames which can be really nice but can also be somewhat grotesque. I think a useful parallel can be drawn between specsavers and topshop / topman. They mimic the more expensive styles and follow fashion trends but by doing it themselves they slash the prices and oftentimes produce much nicer and more understated designs.

Customer service also remains top notch. They talk you through every step of the process, are very professional from the shop floor, to the actual optician side of things, to the fitting and adjustment of the frames. I have travelled around the country and have never been disappointed with the service at a specsavers. I must admit that there is not much to mark it out as *spectacular* but they certainly provide solid advice, and are always friendly and helpful.

Of course the thing you're most likely to notice is the price! 2 frames for the price of 1 is always going to be a winner and allows you to pick two distinct styles so you have a selection without breaking the bank. They also do a great range of budget frames from £25 which are free if you have some NHS voucher or something. With specsavers buying glasses is no longer a daunting experience that has you anxious about spiralling costs.

Summary: Well worth a look.

I used them when I got my glasses last year and overall I did like them - but I did feel under pressure to get my glasses from them rather than go to another optician's with my prescription. They also gave me some duff advice about driving wearing reaction lenses, which still irks me. Nicely reviewed :-)
