Advantages: Eye test was very professional, Clean Store
Disadvantages: Some staff seem to lack motivation, Compititors seem to be much cheaper
Today, I visited teh Specsavers store in Crawley with the intention of ordering one set of varifocal contact lenses, and a pair of glasses. I had had an eye test at the store earlier this month. I selected a pair of spectacles with rimless frames and thin polycarbonate lenses at a price of £169.00. I was advised that my prescription would be compatible with varifocal lenses. So, all was well with the world until I was given the price ... varifocal lenses £169.00 and rimless frames (as mentioned above but without the polycarbonate lenses) a further £169.00 ... £338.00. When asked why the frames were so expensive, the young lady in the shop advised me that I would have to pay the full price for the spectacles, regardless of the fact that I would not need the included lenses. Having been so advised, I left the store without making either of the above purchases. At the time of writing, I am unsure if the instance recounted above is, indeed, SpecSavers policy, or that of a staff member too "busy" to be bothered. Finally, I am at a loss to understand why Specsavers have a website without the facility for customer feedback ... unless one goes through the torturous procedure of trying to have a message passed to Specsavers through their Press Office, there is no other facility or email address to contact them

- 13/09/07 I can answer better about the pricey frames issue. I'm a current Specsavers employee and rimless frames are pricey because of the work needed to manufacture them, and the materials the frames and lenses have to be made out of. Being as all the stress of the spectacles is placed on the joints between the screws and the lenses themselves, they have to be made out of a tough, but lightweight material, obviously costing more.
Most Specsavers stores do not have the facilities to glaze rimless specs in-store, as they do with normal frames, so they have to be shipped to labs elsewhere, incurring more costs. I can only apologise to you on behalf of the lady who served you. |
