Disadvantages: may have to wait around
It seems like the 'should have gone to specsavers' ad is always on the tv, or maybe I've become more aware of it because of the nagging suspicion in the back of my mind that it?s been years since my last eye test. Buying glasses is never a cheap business, they probably cost a couple of quid to make and you end up paying about 1000% more than they?re worth. When a promotional leaflet came through the door offering an eye test with specsavers for only a fiver I thought I was lulled out of my inactivity. The eye test was thorough with all the usual reading down the board of letters and looking at little black circles to see which one was clearer with different lenses. Also they do an additional test for any sign of eye diseases like glaucoma. I was a bit stunned when the optician said that as there was no clinical change in my prescription I didn't need to get new glasses if my old glasses were still in working order. In the past I've been used to opticians being a bit 'hard sell' so that I've ended up buying special non scratch coating for lenses that cost about £20 extra and don't actually make any difference to how quickly lenses get scratched. Although I've not actually purchased a pair of glasses from Specsavers, but I had a good look round before going in for my test and my other half has brought glasses from there this week. So what do they offer? well reasonablely priced glasses is the answer to that. Prices start from £35, yep £35 which is amazingly cheap for glasses. The glasses are arranged into price brackets that go something like this £35, £75, £85, £99, £109 and the designer range prices. At the moment if you buy a pair for £75 or more you can get a second pair free and if you want you can get the second pair made into prescription sunglasses. They have some really nice glasses in there, I liked the look of several pairs and had almost decided on a pair. It'
;s good that I don't have to bothe now. Although the downside is I may have to buy a pair next year as there has been a slight change in my prescription, but not a clinical change. I thought the £85 range upwards had the nicest glasses, which is only to be expected really. They had ranges for men, women, children and a unisex section. The only problem my boyfriend had with buying his glasses is that they weren't ready on the date he'd been told. The staff were friendly, as was the lady who carried out my eye test. The only downside was I did have to wait about 20 minutes to go in, which I wasn't used to as I thought that only your local GP surgery has waiting times! So what else can I say but 'you should have gone to specsavers'
