Tesco heat rub
I have been preoccupied the last few months decorating and having a thorough clear out and I have gradually developed a dull ache in my right shoulder. Due, I believe from the fact I am only five foot two, and have had to stretch up with the paint roller to reach. However that aside, I have been finding it uncomfortable to sleep as I tend to sleep on my right side too. So I popped down to Tesco for something to give me some light relief. I initially headed down there with the intention of purchasing Ralgex cream as I have experience using this and my family have sworn by it. So I headed to the pharmacy department and found a huge array of muscle relaxing products some of which being ridiculously overpriced. But in my attempt to become thriftier I decided to opt for the Tesco heat rub. I wanted a cream as opposed to a spray for the pure and simple reason in that I prefer it. Well I was pleased with the price, it cost £2.58 for a 35g tub and although this seems a lot it lasts ages. I only needed a little more than a pea sized amount for my shoulder and that adequately covered my shoulder and created a sufficient amount of warmth on the skin.
The product comes in a toothpaste style tube with a small white plastic screw lid; the tube is in a small box that is red, orange and white in colour. There is a seal on the tube when you remove the lid and this is simply removed by turning the cap upside down and using it to burst the foil. The cream itself is white and has a slight oily consistency which you massage into the area required. Within a few seconds I could feel a warming sensation where the cream had been rubbed in and within a few minutes the muscles seemed to relax and the pain subsided gradually. The one down side to this cream is the very pungent medicated smell, if over used it's so intense that your eyes begin to water. Using this cream is not a subtle option so if you are going out or going to work, unless the pain is immense, I personally would avoid it. However for me, I just wanted it to aid relaxation of the muscle to help me sleep better so the smell was not a huge issue.
This worked very well for me and eased my muscle pain effectively, but the pain was very mild, more irritating than anything else. I can imagine this would work well for any other muscular pain like those associated with strains. You can use this cream 2-3 times a day which I did not require as I only needed at night, but should you require more the option is there.
The product is not recommended for under-fives and is for external use only. There are recommendations for pregnant women to contact a doctor prior to use, and for you not to use should you be allergic to the ingredients. It also states not to be used by asthmatics, but as an asthmatic I have never had any adverse effects, but please contact your doctor before using it yourself.
One strong recommendation I do have is that to ensure you wash your hands after each application because should you touch your eyes with this product still on your hands it will cause you substantial discomfort.
The ingredients are Menthol 5.91% w/w, Eucalyptus Oil 1.97% w/w, Methyl Salicylate 12.80% w/w, Turpentine Oil 1.47% w/w, Sodium cetostearyl sulphate, cetostearyl alcohol, propylene glycol, wool fat (lanolin), liquid paraffin, dowicil 200 and water. This accounts for the very strong medicated smell.
I purchased this from my local Tesco but it is available most if not all Tesco stores and at www.tesco.com.
Overall I found this product to be very good and it worked well for me, the only negative is the strong smell but for my needs this was not an issue. I would definitely recommend.
