Tesco Heat Rub
Advantages: It works quickly and effectively, great price
Disadvantages: The smell
As I suffer from muscular aches and pains, I try whenever possible not to keep on popping pills. Ibuprofen, generally speaking, seem to work for me when it comes to muscle inflammation, but I do suffer from burning pains in my tummy if I take too many over a longer period of time. I used to use Ralgex for my muscular aches and pains, but I have found this seems to be really expensive. I opted for Tesco's own brand alternative, as it is much cheaper (and I do love Tesco's). This cost me £2.59 for a 35g tube. That worked out incredibly cheap when compared to the branded products, which basically contain exactly the same ingredients and work in the same way.
My husband helped me to apply this cream to the base of my back and across the back of my shoulders. It comes in a flexible tube container, much like a slightly large tube of toothpaste. The cream is white and medium level consistency. It stinks, though. If you can stand the smell of this cream then you are half way there. I only needed to use a tiny amount on both my shoulders and then another small amount in the groove at the base of my spine, where the muscles were really tight and achy.
It smelled stronger and my husband started to rub it in and it felt hot but also comforting and soothing on my skin. I made sure to apply this when I was staying at home and not venturing outside or to work, as they smell really clears your nasal passages. It seems to work for me in exactly the same way as my old Ralgex used to.
The ingredients are:
Menthol 5.91% w/w, Eucalyptus Oil 1.97% w/w, Methyl Salicylate 12.80% w/w, Turpentine Oil 1.47% w/w, Sodium cetostearyl sulphate, cetostearyl alcohol, propylene glycol, wool fat (lanolin), liquid paraffin, dowicil 200, added water.
The cream gives a lovely warm sensation after its been applied to the skin and this happens pretty quickly after application. It's almost like it's numbing the pain for me and it really does literally hit the spot as far as making my achy muscles relax and helping to dissipate the pain.
I use this about two to three times per day (weekends only) if my pain is really bad and I also find it works bets if I apply it just before bed as I am going straight sleep anyway so my muscles can really benefit from the rest and the cream is allowed to work its magic.
It's very well priced and works just as well (if not better) than the likes of Ralgex Spray and I really so highly recommend it.
Summary: Despite the smell this works for me and I really recommend it
