Advantages: Good prices for frames, free eye tests, quick, efficient.

Disadvantages: A bit 'on show' when choosing frames in the middle of a supermarket

Everyone in my family wears glasses and I had been dodging being a full time four eyes myself. I glasses 'for when I needed them' but rarely wore them, but sooner or later I had to face up to the fact I didn't recognise people I knew if I saw them in the street until they were practically sitting on me. My old glasses weren't making much difference either so I felt a trip to the opticians was in order.

I had used Specsavers in the past, as I thought their 'buy one get one free' on glasses was such a good deal. Now it seems all opticians seem to be doing this offer, I guess they had to, to compete. I receive reminder letters from Specsavers regularly telling me it's been years since I've had an eye test and I really should do something about it or words to that effect. They quoted £20 for the test, however in Tesco I noticed they were doing the tests for free. Looking at the frames there were some very good looking ones too.

I went up to the counter and asked if they had any appointments for the following day. They had but the lady said if I had half and hour to spare they would do it there and then! Unsure whether this was a good sign, either I was very lucky, or they very few customers, I went ahead and had it there and then.

The optician was friendly, efficient and very accurate. The test was rather relaxing and he seemed to be very thorough. When choosing the lenses for my prescription at the end he knew exactly what I needed, an needless to say it was a revelation. I'd been wandering around in a very blurry world, but I guess to me it seemed normal. Once I was shown what everyone else was seeing, I was amazed. Now I can see people far enough away, I have time to hide if I don't want to speak to them!!!

The test took just 20 minutes and there is no pressure to buy the glasses from them, although I was encouraged to have a browse. The frames are very reasonable, ranging from just £20 to about £140 for top designer ones. I took ages to decide and I think I think I must had tried every pair! In the end I got two pairs of Bench glasses for £89, plus you get clubcard points too!

I received a text message to say my glasses were ready 3 days later and I am very pleased with them, they fit perfectly, but they will adjust them for you free of charge of they are not comfortable.

Overall, I'm very happy with my specs and the service I received from Tesco. I think Specsavers need to watch out!
