Advantages: Lasts longer and a lot less mess and waste
Disadvantages: None that I can think of
Theramed toothpaste is a bit different from a lot of the others as it is a gel that comes in a bottle and not in a tube. I received a sample once and, although it pains me to admit it, I really did think it was the cutest little thing I ever saw and used it with glee in the mornings.
Since it ran out, I have bought it a number of times as I live in a house where no-one but me can be bothered to squeeze the toothpaste tube in an orderly fashion or close the lid on it (this holds the same mystery for my family as changing the toilet roll or putting washing in the laundry basket).
It is a little thing to gripe about but it really puts me off my stride in my slightly bleary mornings to have to wipe off the toothpaste tube to get rid of the dried up bit on the end which I don't want to brush my teeth with and then squeeze the tube back into shape. Theramed totally avoids this problem although I have to say, if you don't close the cap properly before setting it back down, you can still have to rinse off the top but you don't get any dried up product onto your toothbrush.
There are a number of different variants and I've tried them all - I find them to be refreshing and I've sure that they live up to the claims they make about their efficiency in looking after your teeth. They do come up on buy one get one free promotions in the supermarkets a couple of times a year, and are worth stocking up on. They cost a fair bit more than supermarket own tubes but then they last for ages as you don't need much and there is no wastage. Plus, once you accept that you likely will never train your family correctly in the art of morning toothbrushing, there is a lot less 'maintenance' of the tube required and rinsing of hardened toothpaste off the sink which is really worth it in itself.
Summary: A practical solution to an age old family problem
