Advantages: Great product, good value
Disadvantages: None for me
I do suffer with my teeth and gums. Whilst I know that all the sweeties I have eaten over the years have probably not helped my dental hygiene, I do suffer from mouth problems such as ulcerations and the like which are caused by my health problems. This, coupled with extremely sensitive gums and teeth means that I am really very fussy when it comes to buying toothpaste to use in our household.
There is an added complication when I am making my purchase in that I am allergic to some brands of toothpaste. I know, I know I'm weird lol but this is absolutely true. My poor mother had a heck of a time of it when I was growing up as most toothpaste that she brought into the house made me violently sick.
So, through process of elimination over the years, I now know that any toothpaste that is in a gel form is generally ok for me to use and will not make me ill.
When it came to purchasing a few toiletries and cosmetics to take away on my recent holiday to Spain, I scanned the relevant aisle in my local Tesco supermarket to see if a suitable gel type toothpaste was available for me to buy. I couldn't see any such product so had to abandon my search until the following day, when I spotted a few suitable toothpastes in my local 'Savers' discounted drugstore.
My trusty 'Savers' discount store actually had two toothpastes that I felt were suitable - one was a 'Crest' offering and the other was called 'Theramed 2 in 1'. The 2 in 1 element to the name is in relation to the fact that the Theramed product is not only a toothpaste - with fluoride protection of course - but is also a mouthwash. The combination of both of these elements to the product allows it to make the claims "For up to 12 hours freshness and full protection for your teeth."
I did originally plan to take a separate toothpaste and mouthwash on holiday with me, and I was therefore quite happy that this toothpaste seemed to be a suitable substitute for a separate mouthwash. I was more than aware of my limited baggage allowance (not to mention my inability to carry said baggage) so with that, my mind was made up and my purchase was duly made.
I paid around £1 for the bottle of Theramed 2 in 1 toothpaste and mouthwash, which is a generous 75ml in size. The flavour of my bottle is the 'Cool Mint' variety, which is a bright blue in colour... I find that it looks very similar to a shower gel or something similar! I believe that the Theramed comes in another variety which I think is spearmint or something, but please don't quote me on this!
Ok so I bought a bottle of this 2-in-1 toothpaste and took it on holiday with me, as I mentioned. I have since purchased a second bottle from the same store since returning home as I am so impressed with the results.
I have found that the toothpaste causes no irritation to my sensitive gums or teeth, which I found to be really surprising as this product is not marketed for use on sensitive teeth, and makes no claims to offer any protection to sensitivity as such. Whilst it has not magically removed or resolved these problems for me, it has most certainly not worsened them, whereas some other brands of toothpaste have. This fact in itself makes the Theramed 2 in 1 a bit of a winner for me!
In reference to the "Up to 12 hours freshness claims" I personally wouldn't go that long without brushing my teeth and gums, particularly as they cause me a few problems from time to time, so I cannot really comment on whether this is the case or not.
What I can confirm is that I was a bit wary of ditching my mouthwash altogether when I first started using this product. I am used to brushing my teeth and gums then following this with a rinse of a well-known branded mouthwash, but of course this product claims to be a 2 in 1 product and so there was no need for me to do this. I will admit to feeling a bit nervous about bad breath and my dental hygiene in general as I am wary of such things. I can confirm though that my mouth did feel ok for quite some time after brushing, unless I had eaten or drunk something a bit whiffy... Lol!
My conscience was clear too whilst I was using the Theramed toothpaste, as I can quite easily see from the reverse of the packaging that this product is a match for its rivals in terms of offering protection against my teeth. The claims are that the Theramed gives "Long-lasting complete protection against: Cavities, Tartar, Discolourations, Plaque & halitosis and Gum Problems".
Obviously without a trip to my dentist/hygienist I cannot confirm whether this product has made a lasting impact on my teeth or dental health, but I am 100 % sure that this product does everything that my regular toothpaste does, and more besides!
I do also find that a fairly small amount of the gel on my toothbrush is sufficient for clean-feeling teeth and gums, and nice fresh and minty breath. Because such a little amount of the toothpaste is required, I feel that this makes it even more economical and better value, as the bottle lasts for quite a long time really.
I am truly converted to this little tub of gel. In case you are wondering, I have suffered no bad 'side -effects' from using this toothpaste in terms of nausea or sickness. I would award it top marks and feel it is a great 2 in 1 toothpaste product.
Five star Fluoride Freshness for your Family! Well worth giving it a try, in my opinion! :-D
Summary: A great product at a great price :-)
