Advantages: Bargain Prices
Disadvantages: Do not get free eye care like you would at most opticians
I have always been short sighted since I was young and therefore have had to always wear glasses and when I was old enough then started wearing contact lenses as well as glasses.
When I could wear contact lenses I simply just used my optician, suppose because it was easy and the only way I knew how. About a year or so ago my friend asks me how much I pay and I tell her. She explains that I can get a really good rates online. Im always up for paying less than I have to so I thought why not!
I did some research and found out that my current contact lenses, which at the time were from Specsavers could be found under its origional maker's name. I found out my prescription for each eye, which is luckily both pretty similar. I stumbled across Vision Direct, when searching for my contact lenses.
Previously I paid £22.00 per month for 30 daily disposables, which would have worked out at £66.00 per 3 months or £264.00 per annum. Vision Direct were selling my contact lenses for a much lower price and even offered a reduced price when buying in bulk. I could buy my contact lenses at £52.00 for 3 months or £189.00 for a years supply. If you do the math, I would save £14.00 if I was buying every 3 months and an amazing £75.00 if I was buying a years supply of contact lenses. This offer was too tempting not to miss out!
I started with a 3 month pack incase I did not like them. I even completed the transaction going through topcashback and got even more money back! Unfortunately about a week ago, Vision Direct moved itself from Topcashback, thus no longer offering cashback! Just when I was about to buy another bulk load aswell! I was pretty gutted about this but suppose there was nothing I could do, I am already getting a bargain.
The contact lenses itself are very similar to my previous ones, just the only thing is that they have a slight tint of very light blue in them. That is the only difference I notice! They are top quality and really really wish I had found Vision Direct sooner! Would have saved me a whole lot of money.
Of course the downsides to buying contact lenses online is that you do not get your eyes checked for free and you do not get the aftercare you would usually get from an opticians. I would definitely recommend Vision Direct to those who wear contact lenses and want to save some money! All contact lense wearers then!

- 21/10/09 This could be useful for me. I recently stopped my contact lense subscription due to having too many, also very expensive. |
