Advantages: Service with a smile, value, professionalism

Disadvantages: Only that i can't get all my shopping there!

I decided after not being able to read the questions on TV shows such as Millionaire etc that it was about time I went and got my eyes tested again. I usually find this to be quite a daunting task as you have to pay £13 to be sat in a room and bright lights being shone in your eyes, whilst wearing some 15th Century contraption!

Well, I have visited quite a few opticians over the years and so I thought I'd try the concept of "glasses in an hour" so I went along to Vision Express in Stirling. My first pleasant surprise cam when I saw an advertising board outside that stated that all Eye tests were now free - Yippee!!! £13 quid saved!!

I entered the branch which was very light and bright and seemed quite welcoming, after a minute or so I was greeted by a very pleasant member of staff, I explained the situation that I felt I needed an eye test as I didn't think my currently glasses were suitable, the staff member checked on the computer and gave me several dates for my test, I picked one, I was then given an appointment card and I left. That was painless!!

A few days later I returned to the store and went to reception and told them I had come for an eye test, the lady then escorted me to a seating area at the back of the shop and said that the optician would be with me shortly, I sat down and started to read some pamphlet, when after a very short while the optician came out and invited me into a room - The dreaded 15th Century equipment was awaiting me, or so I thought!

I sat in a chair at one end of a rather long room, instead of the 15th Century equipment, the optician explained that they would be using this new system where I just sit there and look straight ahead and the machine in front would hold the lenses and they would just change them to suit my needs, I was very impressed......after about 15 minutes of saying a little better, middle one, right one, left one etc I was done.

The optician explained that my vision had indeed worsened since my last test and I would need a stronger prescription.....he then escorted me out of the room and took me to a desk where I was introduced to a new staff member, they stated that they would need a few details from me and then we could look at glasses.

The details were very straightforward, name address etc, next the assistant showed me there range of glasses, it was huge, the choices were seemingly endless, from coloured horn rimmed, to glasses with no rims, to metal glasses, she explained the pricing policy to me in a way that didn't make me feel like I was a leper - which is always nice. She then said she would leave me to have a look and if I needed help just to give her a shout, i prefer this method to pressure selling.

I spent about 10 minutes looking round and then settled on a pair, i took the sample pair over to the lady and she immediately came to help, she put them on me and took a few measurements, she then stated that these could be made within the hour and asked if I would like to pop back in, I said I had a little shopping to do so that would be fine.

I left, I did my shopping, went for a coffee and it was about 55 minutes later when i arrived back at the store, as soon as the lady saw me she smiled, went into a drawer and got my new glasses out, i was amazed, previously i have had to wait 2 weeks to get my glasses back! Again we sat down and she made sure they fit my face correctly, she then asked what sort of case I would like.

I went to the reception desk, paid for my glasses and upon leaving was told that if they could be of any further help please do not hesitate to pop in.

All in all from the moment I arrived at the store to the moment I left wearing my new glasses I had a very good shopping trip. The assistants were very helpful and knowledgeable, the optician was extremely good and relaxing and the range of choice was second to none.

I would definately recommend anyone who requires an eye test to go to vision express as the service and value of products was fantastic!

Summary: Supreme service from a market leader!!!
