Advantages: Nice glasses
Disadvantages: Rude optician, frames very expensive
I have recently visited Vision Express, after a break of 9 years from wearing glasses, and a break of 3 years of visiting an optician. I have visited opticians for the last 16 years and have visited various opticians in this time. When I first walked in I was greeted and shown through to a side room for a pre test, here I was asked a few questions; Do you currently wear glasses? What do you/should you use your glasses for? Do you drive? And finally have you ever thought about wearing contact lenses?
The next part of my visit was with the optician! Again I was asked the same questions I had just been asked in the pre test, which I replied to again - I'm guessing they do this to check they wrote the correct answers down. Next the optician moved onto the usual tests, shining a light in my eye to check my eyes health. She then moved on to see how strong my eyes were by seeing what letters I could read on the television screen. So, so far so good..... This is where I felt my appointment went down hill.
We moved onto the test where you have to put those funny glasses on and say which lenses are better. Before I even had time to try and read what was on the screen the optician spat my answer at me in a very matter of fact way. I suppose I should be thankful that she guessed the right answers..!!
After these tests were finally finished I thought it was time to get up and leave. Oh how very wrong I was. After bullying me into trying out contact lenses - which I had already said 3 times before that I wasn't interested in - the optician decided that because I had never worn contact lenses before she would be best to put them in for me. Putting them in was relatively pain free, but, and this is a big but, we still had to get them back out!! After having ago at me because my eyes were not looking the right way - because I have control over my eye movement when someone else's finger is in them - she decided after 5 minutes that he nails were too long to be putting her finger in my eyes. Very professional.
So the eye test from hell was over and I was passed back to the lady who gave me the pre test. I found her very helpful in helping me to find the perfect glasses, and I thought I did until I looked at the price tag. At over £100 just for the frames and the cost of the lenses on top, and then you have the recommended glare resistant thing to help me drive - please note I am not a driver and yet would have still had to pay for the glare resistant thing - I found that I would have to take out a mini mortgage just to get one pair of glasses. The woman did however hand over my prescription without the dreaded lair stare, and I took me and my eyes down to Spec Savers
Summary: Go to Wilson Wilson and Hancock for your eye test and SpecSavers for your glasses
