This means that it can be stored in the body, whereas non fat soluble vitamins are released from the body in the urine It is used in the absorbtion of Calcium, which is why a shortage of Vitamin D has been linked to bone fractures by some people. Vitamin D is manufactured through exposure to sunlight (The Sterols in your skin react to the ultraviolet radiation), so you shouldn't really need to take supplements, but if you don't get out into the sun a lot it may be wise. As what I know, Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin that is used in the absorption of calcium. Usually, I eat cheese, butter, margarine, cream, fortified milk, fish, oysters, and fortified cereals regularly because I believe that the best way to get the daily requirement of essential vitamins is to eat a balanced diet which contains a variety of foods from the "food guide pyramid". Alternatively, if you are free, take a sunbath for 10 to 15 minutes of sunshine 3 times weekly is adequate to produce the body's requirement of vitamin D because the body manufactures the vitamin after being exposed to sunshine.
