Advantages: Keeps a check on your daily points, telling you what you have left for the day!
Disadvantages: None
After the sudden death of my Mum, I had the awful job of having to sort her flat out. As my Dad had passed away 8 years ago everything had to be sorted and emptied out. A task and a half I can tell you, but I knew that there were several things my Mum would have wanted me to have rather than give away to charity.
Well my mum had been a Weight Watchers fan for as many years as I can remember and after getting quite big at one time she went back to her beloved Weight Watchers Club and lost the lot and then mananged to always to stay within her target give or take a couple of pounds. She swore that it was because she carried around her Weight Watchers Calculator everywhere she went, be it in Marks and Spencers for her meal for one or on of one of her many day trips that she took out with her friends.
So when I found the calculator in her shopping back I decided that she would have wanted me to have this, as a couple of days before she died we had been talking about losing weight and I had said that I was trying to lose a few pounds and she said that I should buy one of these ( I reckon it was on the cards that she was going to get me one for Christmas!) as they are so good.
Now this one isn't a new one so I don't know if they have changed over time, but this one is silver plastic and oval in shape, with a small box etched onto the centre of the top lid with assorted coloured strips going down the middle.
There is a small oblong button on the front that you press in to release the lid which will then open up. On quickly looking at the keypad it looks just like any other calculator that you see, but when looking closer you will see that it is different.
It has 3 blue keys on the left hand side with the top one having ND written on it, when this is pressed it comes up New Day with Day 1 when pressed again it comes up New then the word Week?. Next the middle one has PL this stands for Points Value Left so I suppose this is going to tot up what you have had that day and to tell you what you have left for that day. Finally the bottom key has the word USE on it, when this is pressed the words Points Value Use ? comes up. Now being that I have this without any instructions you will have to bear with me as I am still trying to work out how to use it!!!
There are then 20 purple keys in the centre with the usual ON key, C key for cancel, CE key for unsure about this one( bound to be obvious once I play around with it !), you then have a % key and then the usual plus and minus and times and divide keys. There is then the usual 0-9 keys, with 2 green keys on the right that say POINTS and ENTER. Now this I can work out and I must say that my Daughter is like a crazy woman going around working out every single thing for it's points before she will eat a single thing!!
The word WeightWatchers is writtten beneath the screen which is nice and clear to look at. Now I can definitely see the attraction to this little calculator, as it would keep you on the straight and narrow if you were really trying to lose weight. As what I have worked out so far is that when you press ON a Zero appears on the right hand side then if you press the green POINTS key the word calories comes up on the screen. If you look at the item you are thinking of eating and find the calorie value and put this in, then press the green ENTER key the words SAT FAT appears so put this in then press the ENTER key again and Hey Presto it will come up Points Value.
So a very handy and useful little gadget to own, also this isn't bulky as it can be held in the palm of your hand quite easily, so would slip into most handbags or shopping bags easily enough without taking up a lot of space.
It will definitely be coming on a few shopping trips with me now, providing I can prise it out of my Daughters hand!!
This retails I believe for around £20.00 on Amazon, but I don't know if it is cheaper to buy at a WeightWatchers meeting. I have also inherited all of my Mums WeightWatchers Cookbooks so with a bit of luck there will be less of me to see soon. So thanks Mum for putting me in the right direction and now your prized calculator will be going on a lot of different trips with me now!!!!
A very worthwhile 5 stars indeed!
Summary: A really great little gadget that is worth it's weight in gold!!

- 12/11/09 Well I think that it if tells you the amount of Points you are about to eat and you are following a Points Diet, then it must be good and of course very useful!!! |
