Advantages: does what it says on the label, 100% natural.
Disadvantages: none
I get a lot of headaches, both Migraines and just stupid week long headaches! In the midst of one now, had it since finishing work Saturday!
Been to the doctors many times and they are clueless, I've noticed many things make it worse though: Air conditioning at work, central heating, dust, when I'm on my week break from the pill, a lot of stuff really!
I've tried all the different headache pills out there: Solpadeine, Migraleve and all the others and whilst some take it off slightly, others have no effect at all!
I have a repeat prescription for Codeine, extra strength from the doctors and these do the most to take the pain away but still not completely.
I don't like the idea of taking so many tablets but my head gets so excruciating I can't open my eyes or walk straight!
So when I saw the TV advert for this new product 4Head claiming 'Headache relief without pills' I jumped at the chance and hotfooted it into town to grab a stick.
4Head claims to bring relief from tension but I know mine aren't 'tension' but it numbs the pain for me too.
Using 4Head:
It's a little stick you twist up as you would with a lip-balm, the stick inside is clear and smells like menthol which isn't surprising as the main ingredient is Levomenthol, a form of menthol which is also a 100% natural painkiller.
Levomenthol helps to both block pain signals (which is all tablet painkillers do) and also relax the muscles in your head.
So you twist up this little stick and rub the stick over your forehead, the stick is solid but feels a bit like hard jelly, its cooling instantly and that can help with pain anyway.
It does tingle slightly but in a nice way, its not strong enough to make your eyes water. I think it smells nice, a bit like Vicks but a lot milder.
It doesn't feel sticky and dries quickly, it does seem to numb the pain almost instantaneously which is fantastic when you're in agony.
As I say no painkillers take off my headaches but this stick has the best effects so I guess if you have a 'normal' headache (that would be nice..) then it should take it off completely.
The directions for use are just: Use as required. It doesn't have the same dosing instructions as painkilling tablets but it does warn 'as with all medicines, avoid excessive use!
Whoops...I think I would qualify for 'excessive use' on Saturday night as it just wasn't going away so I just kept applying it and the skin on my forehead felt quite sore lol. But it did take the pain away!
4head sticks are 3.6g of Levomenthol in solid form, they cost around £4.99 form Boots, a lot more than tablets cost but worth it if you really are in pain!
I've has my stick for about 3 months and I need a new one but that's just me, hopefully nobody else is unlucky enough to have these crazy headaches!
Definitely recommended for all, its suitable for children too though if your child had headache you should get professional advice before applying any medicines.
So now when my headache starts, I run a hot bath, rub some of this on my head, have a cup of hot tea and soak for ages in the steamy water.
Then when I get out of the bath it would be great to have a sexy masseuse waiting for me just for a bit more relaxation! :) any offers?
Summary: It really works!

- 10/09/08 I sympathise, great review and thanks for the info. I get headaches as well in the midst of my worst ever at the moment. I suffer from hayfever and seem to smell things ages before others and I think that this is part of my problem. Also fumes from exhausts set me off. I think that what you are doing is right and we just have to do our best to minimise the headaches. David X |

- 09/09/08 I always carry a stick of this in my handbag as it's great for stopping a developing headache in its tracks. It doesn't touch the sides on a migraine for me though! Lexy |
