Every so often I get awful headaches. They are torture, feeling as though my head is being at once gripped in a vice and being kicked from the inside at the same time . Whilst generally paracetomol and other painkillers do work, they take some time to act, and when they wear off I'm usually reluctant to take more .
Fairly recently, I was up at my mums when a headache started to make itself known . Quick as a flash, my mum felt around in her handbag, before thrusting 4head into my hand- - a stylish silver container with a clear plastic lid, looking like a short , fat lip salve . At the bottom of the pack is a part that you twist to get more of the product to come out of the tube . The hot pink label announces that this is 3.6 g .
It also informs us the Levomenthol is the active ingredient . Now, I'm aware of menthol in a lot of products - Deep Heat, Deep Freeze, and of course various cough medications and decongestants.
To apply this product, just apply it in a sweep across your forehead . It glides on well, and leaves a thin slightly greasy coating on your skin . The effect is immediate - initially, a very very cold feeling on my skin, that almost feels as though I'm being hit with tiny hailstones . In itself this is quite uncomfortable for a few minutes, but it becomes less annoying very quickly - just leaving my head feeling very cool, as though I was standing in a cool breeze - really very pleasant, and much nicer than the headache .
After another 20 minutes, this feeling also stopped, and my headache was gone . I think that was because I nipped it in the bud before it had a chance to develop into anything bigger . With other headaches, I've sometimes found that it takes two or three applications to completely eliminate a headache, but it does mask the pain wonderfully - and I've found that used in combination with ordinary painkillers, it helps relieve even my worst headaches .
Due to it's small size it is easy to carry around anywhere, and it's solid form makes it easy and mess free to apply . It does have a couple of downsides though - being of the same waxy consistency as lip salve, it does melt and go soft if it gets too hot , and also it does have that strong menthol smell . I stop noticing it after a few minutes, but once after applying it a friend commented 'Have you got deep heat on ' so it is noticeable . However, its not an offensive smell really.
It's also more expensive that tablet painkillers, costing me a little under £5.50 when I purchased my own tube However, I think it is well worth the price, and my tube has only worn down a little, so I expect it to last me a good long time!
5 stars - whilst the smell is a tad annoying, the fact is this product REALLY works .

- 14/10/09 I have seen this advertised and always think 'It'll never work...' but after reading this I think I'll try it, as a sufferer of migraines and migraine clusters I am not sure whether it'll be strong enough but will give it ago!
Excellently reviewed! |

- 14/10/09 This sounds just what I need right now. My heads been sore from yesterday. I have taken some painkillers, but like you, do not like taking too many. I don't care how much this costs I am going to get some as it sounds good. Thanks for recommending it. |
