Avon Sleeptherapy Sleep Balm
by wigglylittleworm I am someone who is often tossing and turning into the wee small hours of the night trying to get some sleep. I have had some success with using essential oils and nice bath and shower preparations in helping me relax before bedtime so I decided to give the Avon sleeptherapy range a try. The sleep balm normally costs £3 for a 10ml pot ... but when I bought it there was a special offer. The consistency of the sleep balm is like vaseline and it is a white coloured substance. The idea is that you rub a little bit of the balm onto your temples and the inside of your wrists and it helps you to fall into a restful sleep. I do like the smell of the balm, like the rest of the sleeptherapy range it smells of lavendar and chamomile. It is a very gentle smell, the "old lady" smell of the lavendar is greatly enhanced by toning it down a bit and adding gentle chamomile. I doubt that there are any essential oils in there as Avon would have been shouting about it if there were which means that the fragrance is artificial. Once I apply the balm to my temples and wrist, I lie back and enjoy the smell, unfortunately the smell disappears really quickly and so only lasts around 10 minutes or so. I do find the smell mildly relaxing but I don't think that it has any sleep inducing properties at all as it has never helped me to get to sleep any faster. I have used it alone and with the shower gel and linen spray from the same range. The Avon sleep balm is a waste of money, it would be far better spending the £3 it costs on a bottle of pure essential oils and dabbing a couple of drops on your pillow before you go to bed. Avon Sleeptherapy Sleep Balm
by kiss_me2070 My sister gave me an Avon book to look through a few weeks ago and although I'm not too keen on many of their products I did find a few items that I wanted to try. One of these items included something called Sleep Balm. I had heard of this product before and had read a few reviews about it but I wanted to try it myself to see what it ... was all about or if it actually worked or was just a pointless product. The product claims to help to give you a restless night's sleep. I wasn't too sure how a balm would do this; how-ever I might be pleasantly surprised by the product. I have used a sleep spray before going to sleep and I find that this sometimes helps me drift off to sleep so although I wasn't too sure this product was work I was hoping I would be proved wrong. The product is priced at £3.00; how-ever this is occasionally on offer for just £1.50 which sounds like a bargain. The sleep balm comes in clear plastic jar which has a white screw lid. You can clearly see the product through the jar which is white in colour. On the lid it states that this product is from Avon and that it's a sleep balm which helps aid a restful night's sleep. As the jar is quite small it's perfect for taking away with you as you can pack it into a small bag or cosmetic's case. On the bottom of the jar is a round label which opens to reveal a list of ingredients and how to use the item. It has this information in a few different foreign languages. This product claims to help drift you off to sleep when rubbing the non-greasy balm onto your wrists and your temples. I was intrigued to know what this balm contained to help drift you off to sleep but when looking at the ingredients nothing obvious stood out to me apart from something called Bran Oil. When I looked up this information on Google it seems as though this is used in different brands of sleep balm to help you drift off to sleep. I was feeling a little tired anyway but I thought I would use the sleep balm to see if it helped me drift off to sleep any quicker than I normally would. I unscrewed the lid to the jar and smelt the product first. There was a very light smell to the balm which was actually quite nice and very pleasant. The balm was white in colour and had a matte look to it rather than it looking shiny and glossy. I use a fingertip to rub the top of the balm gently to get a small amount and then I rubbed this onto my wrist. I then used a fingertip on the other hand to apply this to the other wrist and then on the temples. The balm felt a little greasy when applying it which I was a little surprised by as it states that the product is non greasy. Although the product did have a slight scent to it I couldn't actually smell the product after I had applied it. I could see the product slightly on my wrists as it was slightly shiny from where the balm was slightly greasy looking. I got into bed and laid down ready to as they claim drift of to sleep. I lay in bed very comfortable and nice & cosy and expected to drift off within a few minutes, how-ever I didn't and I ended up tossing and turning in bed for a good 10 minutes before finally falling asleep, probably from where I was tired rather than the balm sending me off to sleep. I have used the balm a few times since first using it and I don't personally think it helps me drift off to sleep. The product does smell pleasant but I personally think it's just a pot of nothing. I'm glad this product wasn't too expensive as it clearly does not work and does not help you drift off to sleep. The product is slightly greasy and the fell of it reminds me slightly of Vaseline due to the greasy residue left on my finger after applying it. If you get this onto your bed covers it washes out with no problems. I won't be buying this product again and think I'll stick to the products that you spray in your room and onto your pillow to help aid sleep. Avon Sleeptherapy Sleep Balm
by Callee My eight year old daughter continuously has difficulties in sleeping, we have spent many a night drifting off to sleep only to be woken an hour or so later by the little patter of feet running into our bedroom saying she just cant sleep. When you combine this with the fact our three year old never slept from the day she was born you can ... imagine what a sleep deprived mother I am - or should I say was. I purchased a jar of the Avon sleeptherapy restful night sleep balm in the hope it would help, as I had tried several other ways to get her to sleep through the night and Lavender was something people kept recommending to me. The balm comes in a little clear jar of 10ml and has a white lid with a purple and blue night sky pattern on, you get twelve months from opening to use and does have a sort of calming smell to it although it doesnt actually state anywhere that this smells like lavender, I just assumed because of the colours used and the fact it is to help restful sleep. We told our eight year old that this is a 'magic balm' and whenever we put a little bit on her temples or her wrist that it will magically make her sleep all night and it seemed this was more a case of mind over matter as since she started using it she has started to sleep through. I personally dont like the smell that much but my daughter does and I dont think it does actually promote sleep as I tried it myself and it did nothing for me but if it helps my daughter then its good enough for this house. Now my daughter has got back into a sleeping pattern, we dont even need to use this every night but I do still have the jar 'just in case' and combined with her little bedtime routine every night we now at last have a houselhold that does on occasion sleep through the night. It is currently in the Avon brochure at half price for £1.50 but would normally sell for £3.00, and there are other items in the sleeptherapy range which is a dreamy body wash (I have never tried this) and also a goodnight pillow mist (I do have this), and again these are all currently half price.
