Advantages: Very Effective, Nice tasting
Disadvantages: Some possible stomach upset
This medicine, I find, is an excellent remedy for sufferers of a chesty cough and catarrh. I came across this medicine recently by a recommmendation from my pharmacist, who said it seems to work in many cases. **Taste** Usually medicines of this type do not taste very good, but Adult Meltus Expectorant has aniseed oil contained in it and therefore is very pleasant to take. It leaves a pleasant after taste in your mouth. Each 5ml spoonful contains the following active ingredients: Guaifenesin BP 100mg, Cetylpyridium chloride BP 2.5mg, Sucrose BP 1.75mg, Purified Honey BP 0.5g. Other non-active ingredients include: Glycerin, Menthol crystals, Chloroform, Water and others. The bottle comes in sizes of 100ml and contains an expectorant and an oral antiseptic. These two combined together, have made my chesty cough and catarrh ease away in just a few days. The oral antiseptic also eased my mild sore throat. **Usage** Adults and children over 12 should take 1 or 2 5ml spoonfuls every three or four hours. Children under 12 MUST NOT take this medicine. There is a warning that stomach upset may occur after taking this medicine, although I have no ill effects after taking it. **Storage** Adult Meltus Expectorant has a shelf life of 5 years, with the expiry date shown on the label. It should be stored under 25 Centigrade. I recommend this medicine to adult sufferers of chesty coughs and catarrh.

- 14/06/02 I realy wanted to put vu but Im told by the pharmacist in my trust we should not prescribe cough medicines because there is no research that proves they are effective. I always tell patients if it eases it its up to them but we have to practice researched based medicine. I personally would try it if I had a cough. |

- 10/03/02 VU.. always good to hear of the lesser known possibles.
May I suggest Pholcodine... I can't use anything else, because of my medications, but my whole family now use it... it is great at easing that cough.
Thanks. |
