Alka Seltzer was invented in Germany in 1931. It contains three active ingredients, aspirin, sodium bicarbonate and citric acid. Aspirin is not recommended for all so the medicine should be taken with caution or from advice from a trained specialist. Also consider this medicine is for multi-symptoms and unless you have all of the symptoms there is no point taking it. Headaches heart burn and for stomach related issues like gas, indigestion and cramps. Also it is good for pains associated with periods, rheumatic and muscular and even toothaches.

Alka Seltzer is over the counter drug by this I mean anyone can buy it without prescription.


From all the research I have done, it is advised not to take it if you have peptic ulcers, gout, and asthma and if you are breastfeeding.

I suppose anyone who takes this medicine knows how fast the tablet dissolves into the water. Amazing, that although the product was invented 74 years ago it is still selling in millions.
