Advantages: It actually works!

Disadvantages: More pricey than other things on offer

When I was a teenager I often suffered from the plague of mouth ulcers but at the ripe old age of 27 I thought I'd got over it! However, it seems not and after a particularly unpleasant bout of the blighters last week I was given this 'miracle' product to try by my wonderful mom!

WHAT ARE MOUTH ULCERS? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The lining in your mouth is incredibly sensitive and a break in the surface creates a lesion that reveals sensitive nerve endings which equals great pain and inconvienience!
It is estimated that around 75% of the population will suffer from mouth ulcers at some atage in their life.

WHAT CAUSES THEM? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Accidental damage can cause ulcers, so far example brushing your teeth to hard, biting your mouth or drinking drinks that are too hot.
You can also get aphtous ulcers which occur if someone is stressed or run down or ulcers caused through B12 or iron deficiencys.

Food and bacteria can infect the sore making the ulcer increase in size and last longer which is where this product comes in!

WHAT IS THE PRODUCT AND WHAT DOES IT DO? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Aloclair spray is one of the products Aloclair offers that in their words 'forms a strong and protective barrier over the ulcer to promote fast healing'
It claims to be a non stinging, fast acting, long lasting solution that relieves pain within minutes and lasts up to 6 hours.

APPLICATION ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The spray comes in a glass bottle which is housed in a cardboard box with the company claims and logos on it, along with directions for use, ingredients and contact details.
On top of the bottle is a lid which once removed reveals the spray pump. There is an applicator to attatch the first time its used and we're told to direct the spray towards the ulcer and spray 3 times or as required.
The packaging claims that one bottle can last up to 100 sprays but I couldn't confirm this as I haven't got to the bottom of the bottle yet!

MY EXPERIENCE ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

To be honest Im a bit of a wimp with applying medicines etc and so I found the initial application quite difficult. This is because you do have to press quite hard for the pump to spray and I was a little 'scared' as to what to expect! However once I'd done it the first time and realised it wasn't actually that bad it got less traumatic!

The spray has a v mild liquorice/aniseed flavour (it tastes like those dark fox sweets you can get at the moment!) I dont like liquorice but didn't find the tast in any way offensive so please dont let this put you off.
The spray felt a little cold on application.
If you 'hit' the ulcer directly it can sting a little bit but it isn't at all painful.
I intantly felt that something was happening for the better!

WAS IT ANY GOOD? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Although the company claim the product works in minutes, I felt as though it worked almost instantly with the pain I was experiencing definitely decreasing. This could have been the soothing aloe vera the spray contains, it could have been psychological - whatever it was it was working!
If I was just sat at work or doing everyday things I didn't notice the ulcer at all once I'd applied aloclair, on eating I could still feel a little bit of discomfort but nowhere near as bad as it was without.
Despite the claim it lasts up to 6 hours I found I reapplied within about 3.

INGREDIENTS (Skip this if you like, just for info as its a medicinal product) ~~

Deionised water, maltodextrin, propylene, glycol, polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), aloe vera extract, potassium sorbate, sodium benzoate, PEG-40, hydrogenated caster oil, EDTA, benzalkonium chloride, aroama, saccharin sodium, glycyrrhetinic acid, sodium hyaluronate

OTHER GOOD POINTS ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

* Suitable for babies, children and adults
* No effect on any current medication
* Safe if swallowed
* No need to use fingers or applicators to apply - The attatchment never directly touches your mouth so it remains hygienic meaning other members of the family can use it also
* The attatchment is quite long meaning if the ulcer is at the front, on the roor or right at the back of your mouth its easily reached and the spray efficiently dispensed.

My relatives that have tried this spray state that the shelf life on it is very good, even once opened. I havent been able to find an offical time but some have had it 12months + and still find it works effectively. Maybe this is something you could check on ourchase I didnt think!

PRICE AND AVAILABILITY ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Aloclair spray costs around the £4 mark for a 15 ml bottle and can be found in most pharmacys, e.g. boots, lloyds etc.
Some dentists also stock Aloclair and it can be brought on line for a similar price

OTHER USES ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Those with braces or ill fitting dentures might also find this product useful as it would soothe any lesions in their mouth.
Apparently people who are giving up smoking are more likely to get mouth ulcers so may be stock up beforehand!

OTHER PRODUCTS ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Aloclair is available in 3 forms - this spray, a mouthwash and a new gel

IN SUMMARY ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I would definitely recommend this product to anyone that is suffering from mouth ulcers. I have tried many products over the years and although this one is one of the more expensive, it is definitely a case of you get what you pay for.
It is quick and easy to use, it is easily carried around with you meaning it can be used on the go, as and when its needed and most importantly, IT WORKS!
I wouldnt say that it made my ulcer heal up any quicker but it definitely made it a lot easier to live with!
A regular in my bathroom cabinet from now on!

Summary: A quick, easy to use aid to banishing the pain from mouth ulcers!

I had the mouthwash version of this stuff and didn't think it worked the first time. The next time I got an ulcer though it worked a treat. Nice one!

Great review. My teenage boys suffer a lot from mouth ulcers. I wonder if it is a hormonal thing?

I've not tried this but I am prone to mouth ulcers - Anbesol is normally my weapon of choice.
