Advantages: sooths and calms tings/bites, lasts for ages, easy to use.
Disadvantages: none!
This is one my favourite things in our medicine cupboard. It is a cream used to 'relieve pain, itching and inflammation caused by insect bites, stings and stinging nettle rash.' It comes in a small 20g tube that looks like a mini toothpaste, it is made of soft but strong metal so it is very easy to squeeze and roll the end up as you use it up. You ca get almost all the product out so there is barely any wastage at all and it not easy to wear or pierce a hole in the tube which is a great plus as this means it can easily be carried in your bag. When first using, you need to remove the lid and pierce the top of the tube with the outisde of the lid like you do for other tube products.
The main reason we use this is for when the cats suddenly get fleas, the first sign is them attacking me and we get the flea treatment on asap! Poor me is left with nasty itchy red bumps all over my legs that drive me insane!! It is also really helpful in the Summer when all the pesky nats like to have a nibble at me too. I expect this is a really good product to take on holiday to hot places where there are all sorts of little insects that sting and bite.
I apply this cream more than the recommended 2-3 times a day, I apply when they have just shown up and then when they start to itch which is usually when the surrounding temperature changes for instance getting into bed or after having a bath. The cream is white and thick and you only need a small amount for each bite so it lasts forever, the cream sooths the bites and then the red starts to die down and they no longer itch. I need to use the cream for about 2 -3 days depending on how quick I get it on in the first place.
I have used this on some bites I got last summer on my legs which were horrible, they swelled to the size of 10ps and went slightly purplish and yellow (ew!!), god knows what they were from but they were extremely itchy. This cream did help sooth but not entirely as they were still a little itchy, over a few days the swelling did calm down but looking back I probably should have gone to the doctors for something a little stronger for the first few days.
I've never been stung by a bee or wasp and have been lucky to avoid nettles for a few years (and back then I just went on a search for dot leaves to rub over it!) however our neighbours little boy got stung by a bee last summer and was in hysterics so we leant them the cream for his sting and said it really helped and soothed and they kept a plaster over the sting to stop him from itching it. He also managed to get stung by nettles and the cream helped clear the nettle rash up within just about a day!
Really recommend this product as it works so well and lasts forever! It is about £3 from most supermarkets and chemists which I think is an extremely fair price considering how well it performs.
Summary: A must have for a first aid kit/ medicine cabinet/holiday!
