~ Introduction ~ Some months back, I began to get this terrific pain in my butt and as the days went by, the duration and the intensity of this pain grew and I began to get a little worried - I had never experienced pain quite like this before. After a discussion with family the majority recommended that I go and see the doctor about this, but me being the proud man I am, didn’t like the thought of dropping my kacks in front of the doctor. But then my sister piped up and said - “I reckon you’ve got Haemorrhoids!”, eh! “Haemorrhoids, you know … piles”. She then began to describe the symptoms of the sharp pain, itching and burning sensations and when they are most likely to occur (usually affected by hot or cold) such as after showering or a bath. Piles are actually enlarged or swollen blood vessels, which can occur inside or outside the anus (ewwww … I’m so glad mine were inside). I later went to the chemist to have a look and see what sort of over-the-counter medicines they had for such problems and that is when I discovered ‘Anusol’, ~ Causes ~ So what causes haemorrhoids? The manufacturers list the following as possible causes: · Excessive straining during bowel movements, usually the result of constipation. · Pregnancy, the pressure of a growing baby within the lower abdomen results in increased pressure in the anal vessels. This may lead to swelling and distension. · Heredity (you may be more likely to develop piles if your parents have suffered from them) · Competing in games where bursts of high energy movements are required. · Lifting or heavy manual work resulting in straining or pressure on the lower abdomen. ~ Description ~ Anusol is produced in three different forms – suppositories, ointment and cream. I used the cream (23g) and this is what the opinion is written around.
>The cream comes in a box roughly 4 x 1 x ½ inches which is coloured in green and white, the tube inside the box is about an inch shorter and is also coloured in green and white. The cream inside the tube is a murky creamy colour and could only be described as having a fragrance like a faint anti-sceptic ointment such as TCP. ~ Application ~ When applying the cream you need to wash the affected area and dry carefully with a soft towel. When dry you can rub the cream in or attach a plastic nozzle to the end of tube, then insert this into your rectum and squeeze the tube gently until you can feel the cold sensation (and boy is this cold!). Make sure that you wash the nozzle thoroughly with hot soapy water after use. The cream needs to be re-applied morning and night and after each bowel evacuation (charming!) until the problem is cleared. Like most medicines, if the problems persist for more than 7 days, then you should consult your GP. I found the nozzle method much better for application as there was hardly any mess and it seemed to treat the affected area much more effectively. ~ Results ~ I am glad to say that after only 2 days of use the problem had cleared and I was back to my old self again doing sports and other strenuous activities (better leave this for a different op – lol!) I think this stuff is magic and if the problem does re-occur then I think that I will stick what I know to actually work – this cost me the sum of £3.15 from a local chemist and saved me from a lot of aggrivation and embarrassment. The manufacturers of this product detail that the only probable side-effect to occur could be a rash for those of you who may sensitive skin, but if you stop using the product then the rash usually clears within a day or two. ~ Ingredients ~ Active ingredients are: Bismuth oxide 2.14, Balsam Peru PH Eur 1.80, Zinc oxide Ph Eur 10.75. <
