Avon Sleeptherapy Sleep Balm
Advantages: Bargain price, looks like a nice thoughtful gift.
Disadvantages: Doesn't help sleep.
Someone was passing an Avon catalogue round at work and I felt like I should buy something. I am not a fan of a huge amount of Avon products, just the blusher, and I had already stocked up on lots of that! I had a quick look through, for birthday presents as I like to stock up in advance. The sleep products caught my eye as my Mum is huge insomniac. Avon were doing a special offer, whereby if you bought all three of the products in their sleeptherapy range, you could get them for just over six pounds. This seemed like a bargain and quite a generous gift, so I ordered them for my Mum.
One of the products was this, the sleeptherapy restful night balm. The balm comes in a round plastic pot, a bit like a lip balm pot. The pot is clear plastic with a screw on and off lid. The lid is quite secure and I wouldn't be too worried about the lid coming off if I kept it in my handbag.
Inside the pot is a white thick waxy material. Initially it also looks like vaseline or a lip balm product, but when you come to touch it you realise it is much harder and thicker. I soon learnt over time that if you put it next to a hot lamp it does warm up a bit and this makes it easier to use and apply.
The easiest way to use this is to use a finger which has a short nail and run the 'palm' of your finger over the balm repeatedly and then rub it into your skin. It is quite hard to rub in, so you do have to sleep with it sitting on the surface of your skin, which can be a little unpleasant. I applied it to my wrists and my temples. I was also worried about damaging my bed sheets when it rubbed off on them, but after a good wash they are as good as normal.
I thought the balm may smell very nice, like have a relaxing lavender scent, which made people sleepy, but it doesn't really smell of anything.
The real downside is that when I used this my sleep didn't improve. I felt like I had slept just as deeply (or lightly as the case may be) and I still woke up just as many times. You may wonder why I was using this when I had bought it for my Mum but that is because it didn't work for her either!
Summary: Doesn't work.
