Avon Sleeptherapy Sleep Balm
Advantages: Pretty design
Disadvantages: Everything else
I am a bit of a sucker for anything that is supposed to help me get a good nights sleep. I have lots of potions and pills claiming they will help me me drift off to an undisturbed slumber. Most of them are completely useless but it doesn't stop me from trying new one's out.
I got this avon sleep therapy balm quite awhile ago now and had pretty much forgotton all about it until I saw a review on it the other day and remembered I still had it. I vaguely remembered being unimpressed with it first time around but I thought I would give it another go and see if I thought any more highly of it this time.
Unfortunately there was a reason as to why I still had nearly a full tub a year later and that's because it is rubbish.
Probably the nicest thing I can say about it is that it comes in pretty packaging. It comes in a little 10ml glass jar with a screw top lid that is decorated with clouds against a dark sky. I'm not sure why but I really like it and think it looks expensive and I so wanted it to work well.
To use the balm you simply rub some into your pulse points such as your wrist and temple and it is supposed to help you drift off to a restful nights sleep.
Now I am not naive enough to believe it would knock me out or anything even remotely similair but I did expect it to be lovely and soothing to smell.
Unfortunately I found the smell horrible and not soothing at all. It is supposed to be lavander which normally I am not keen on anyway when it is combined with other scents but this didn't even smell like lavender, I can't put my finger on exactly what it smelt like but it was cloying and rather unpleasant.
I have other sleep balms which obviously don't send me to sleep either but at least they smell nice and I find them to be similar to how I also find candles. I like and enjoy the smell and they relax me whereas with this one I ended up having to wash it off before I could even go to sleep because I found it so unpleasant.
When I washed the balm off I found that it had left red patches where it had been which was worrying but these faded over night and I do have sensitive skin so this might not happen to other people.
I think I paid £2.50 or £3 for this, i can't remember exactly and whilst this is relatively cheap it is expensive for a product that neither helps you go to sleep or even smells nice. If you would like to try a sleep balm I recommend that you try the lush one as even though that won't help you sleep it is pleasant to use.
Summary: A rubbish product from avon
