Advantages: nice scent, washes out of bed sheets easily

Disadvantages: doesn't send me to sleep

My sister gave me an Avon book to look through a few weeks ago and although I'm not too keen on many of their products I did find a few items that I wanted to try. One of these items included something called Sleep Balm. I had heard of this product before and had read a few reviews about it but I wanted to try it myself to see what it was all about or if it actually worked or was just a pointless product. The product claims to help to give you a restless night's sleep. I wasn't too sure how a balm would do this; how-ever I might be pleasantly surprised by the product. I have used a sleep spray before going to sleep and I find that this sometimes helps me drift off to sleep so although I wasn't too sure this product was work I was hoping I would be proved wrong.

The product is priced at £3.00; how-ever this is occasionally on offer for just £1.50 which sounds like a bargain. The sleep balm comes in clear plastic jar which has a white screw lid. You can clearly see the product through the jar which is white in colour. On the lid it states that this product is from Avon and that it's a sleep balm which helps aid a restful night's sleep. As the jar is quite small it's perfect for taking away with you as you can pack it into a small bag or cosmetic's case. On the bottom of the jar is a round label which opens to reveal a list of ingredients and how to use the item. It has this information in a few different foreign languages. This product claims to help drift you off to sleep when rubbing the non-greasy balm onto your wrists and your temples.

I was intrigued to know what this balm contained to help drift you off to sleep but when looking at the ingredients nothing obvious stood out to me apart from something called Bran Oil. When I looked up this information on Google it seems as though this is used in different brands of sleep balm to help you drift off to sleep. I was feeling a little tired anyway but I thought I would use the sleep balm to see if it helped me drift off to sleep any quicker than I normally would. I unscrewed the lid to the jar and smelt the product first. There was a very light smell to the balm which was actually quite nice and very pleasant. The balm was white in colour and had a matte look to it rather than it looking shiny and glossy. I use a fingertip to rub the top of the balm gently to get a small amount and then I rubbed this onto my wrist. I then used a fingertip on the other hand to apply this to the other wrist and then on the temples. The balm felt a little greasy when applying it which I was a little surprised by as it states that the product is non greasy. Although the product did have a slight scent to it I couldn't actually smell the product after I had applied it. I could see the product slightly on my wrists as it was slightly shiny from where the balm was slightly greasy looking. I got into bed and laid down ready to as they claim drift of to sleep. I lay in bed very comfortable and nice & cosy and expected to drift off within a few minutes, how-ever I didn't and I ended up tossing and turning in bed for a good 10 minutes before finally falling asleep, probably from where I was tired rather than the balm sending me off to sleep.

I have used the balm a few times since first using it and I don't personally think it helps me drift off to sleep. The product does smell pleasant but I personally think it's just a pot of nothing. I'm glad this product wasn't too expensive as it clearly does not work and does not help you drift off to sleep. The product is slightly greasy and the fell of it reminds me slightly of Vaseline due to the greasy residue left on my finger after applying it. If you get this onto your bed covers it washes out with no problems. I won't be buying this product again and think I'll stick to the products that you spray in your room and onto your pillow to help aid sleep.
