Advantages: The aroma somehow makes you feel restful

Disadvantages: If you don't like lavender- give this a miss

I didn't buy my Badgers Sleep Balm- to be honest it would never have crossed my mind to do so. But following my Mother's death, a close friend bought it for me. It is on sale in Boots for just over £4 but no doubt online you can get it cheaper. Now I cannot say that it worked for me straight away- but that really isn't surprising given the emotional place I was at- I couldn't even sleep with the light off.

After a while, I found myself enjoying the routine of rubbing the ointment into my brow relaxing in itself, it was like the rubbing sensation was telling my body and mind, that the time for rest had arrived, You need very little and so the small 21g pot will last longer than you might first think on first view of the size of the tin. The size being small is to my mind a good thing, as I can just leave it sitting on my bedside table.

The predominant aroma is lavender, long famed for it's sleep enhancing properties. But the contents are:-extra virgin olive oil, castor oil, beeswax and the essential oils - citrus, bergamot, balsam fir, rosemary and of course lavender. I cannot say the aroma is still there in the morning- I have never smelt it or felt waxy!- but then I only use the tiniest amount and rub it in.

Once opened the contents will last for 12 months and you will probably find, that you do not remember to use it every night.

In my opinion it is what it says on the tin- "A calming sleep enhancer".

It isn't going to put you to sleep, if you are in pain, physically or mentally. It isn't going to stop your mind ticking over if you have problems to solve. But it does aid relaxation. After a long day, have a relaxing bath, massage some balm onto your forehead and snuggle under the duvet and ...................... ..............................ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ ZZZZZZZZ.

Summary: After hot bath or shower, an extra rung on the pampering ladder.
