One of my grandchildren had a verruca on his foot. It was quite sore to walk on and it meant he could not go swimming with the rest of the school and he loves swimming. My daughter asked me to have a look and see if I could get something for him up the chemist when I was going up the town so I remembered Bazuka from when my own kids were younger and thought I would get some of that.


The packet I bought is a bright yellow cardboard box so it really sticks out well on the shelf in the shop. It cost me £6.99 in Boots and I checked the packaging to make sure it was suitable for children as well as adults. The packaging says this in an Extra Strength gel and it has the active ingredient called Salicylic Acid.


When I got back to my daughter's she opened the packaging and there was a small tube inside which is white in colour and has a yellow lid and looks a bit like a tube of super glue. What you have to do is wash the area first and make sure it is properly dry and then apply a thin coating of the gel which should be one or two drops of it, over the surface of the verruca and allow it to dry before treading on it. You need to do this every night and you don't need to stick anything over the top as it is water-resistant. My daughter kept doing this for about 5 days and then the whole thing seemed to peel itself off the skin and the verruca seemed to come away with it.


I don't understand how it works but it seemed to do the job and the verruca didn't come back again and he is now able to join in with the swimming again.


You can use this for warts too but I don't know anyone who has tried it on a wart before. It does tell you not to get it on any other part of the skin or it may become irritable so you have to be careful the drop goes where you want it to go. This is quite easy to do though as the nozzle of the tube is very thin and you can direct it easily.


I would recommend this gel for any verrucas you or your family may catch but here's hoping you never do.
