Advantages: Cheaper than chiropody, reasonably successful
Disadvantages: Needs long-term use
Bazuka Gel is a home treatment for verrucas, warts, corns and callouses. It involves soaking the feet last thing at night, and then applying a few drops of the gel and simply leaving it to dry, with no plaster required. This is an advantage over other treatments, including those from chiropodists, because plasters tend to peel off the feet very quickly. The gel solidifies and can be removed before applying the next nights treatment. The process is repeated, with a weekly emery rub, until the offending affliction has gone. As a family, we seem to have had an abundance of verrucas over the years, and have made good use of Bazuka Gel. The treatment is not painful, and in most cases the verruca has been cured within a few weeks, although one still remains after many months of treatment... A corn, on the other hand, disappeared after only about 5 applications. On balance, I think it is worth trying Bazuka Gel for people who would otherwise have to pay for expensive chiropody treatment, but perhaps not for those who get it free. Also, I believe that some professionals suggest that verrucas will eventually disappear on their own and do not need treatment unless they are painful. Although it saves expense and time spent at a clinic, the treatment does have some drawbacks. Depending on the position of the verruca, wart etc, it can be quite tedious to have to apply the gel and then leave the foot raised so that it can dry (this takes several minutes). Secondly, people with certain conditions (such as diabetes) should not use this gel and in theory the pharmacist should give advice before selling it, although this does not always happen. Thirdly, Bazuka Gel is now also made in a slightly more expensive extra strength version, which we have so far found to be no more effective than the original version.
