Beechams All In One
Advantages: Offers some relief
Disadvantages: Tastes horrible, quite expensive
** The Product **
Beechams All In One is a medicine used when suffering from a cough or cold. It is also available in tablet form but I prefer to take the medicine, despite its disgusting taste. A 160ml bottle, which is 8 doses will cost £4.83 in Boots.
The bottle comes in a blue and orange box with information about the product, active ingredients and dosage information.
The active ingredients are paracetamol, guaifenesin and phenylephrine hydrochloride. Paracetamol is for pain relief, guaifenesin is used to treat a chesty or productive cough and phenylephrine is a decongestant.
For adults and children over 12 years old, the dosage is 20ml every four hours. There is a little plastic cup that comes with the medicine with measurements on the side so it's very easy to measure out the correct amount. I advise washing this out thoroughly after every use or it does get very sticky.
It states not to use this product for more than five days in a row and not to exceed the daily dosage amount.
** What I think **
I have been taken Beechams All In One for years now but lately it seems to upset my stomach so I only take it if I'm feeling really bad and can't sleep. The liquid is an orangey colour and it tastes absolutely vile, I advise drinking it all in one go to get it over with, as sipping it will just prolong the torture. It makes my stomach feel very warm which is quite a nice feeling but sometimes it makes me feel very nauseous, that may be down to me as opposed to the product though as my tummy is a bit awkward these days. The box says "non-drowsy" but this always makes me very sleepy, the tablets, which I assume is the exact same product, don't make me drowsy though. So perhaps I'm just a bit odd. The sleepiness is one of the reasons I take it though, I really struggle getting to sleep when I've got a cold and this does help a lot.
At nearly £5 a bottle for only 8 doses, it isn't cheap but I only take it at bedtime when my cold is at it's worst so I do find one bottle will usually last me at least two colds.
The effects never last long enough for me, you can only take it every four hours but you don't get four hours relief however this is typical of most medications, in my experience.
I would definitely recommend this is you're suffering from a cold; it will relieve some of the symptoms for you and hopefully make you feel a bit better.
Summary: Get it down you fast and you'll feel a bit better
