?What?? I hear you ask ?is saw palmetto??

Good question! I didn?t know this myself until a herbalist recommended it to me. It is a well kept secret known mainly to people who know about herbs and their healing properties.

It has a very strange name, it is very powerful, and is native to North America. It?s main claim to fame is that it is useful in relieving problems relating to the men?s prostate.

It also has positive effects on the treatment of colds, asthma, and lung conditions, and it also can be used as a tonic for stimulating the appetite, removing fatigue, and restoring hair loss! It can also nourish the urinary tract and kidneys, and stabilise emotions, as well as regulate sex hormones, in both men and women, which in turn may improve a persons vitality and sex drive!

Wow, shouldn?t we all rush out and buy this miracle herb? Well, the downside is that it tastes foul!

The Saw Palmetto is part of the palm family. The fruit of the saw palmetto looks like an egg, and is usually green, through to blue/black. When analysed, the extract contains fatty acids, sterol compounds, which act in a similar way to estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone., depending whether taken by a man or a woman.

The herb has been used for centuries as a aphrodisiac, and to raise energy levels, although modern scientific research has not been able to yet substantiate the claims. The herb claims to promote reproductive strength, and the growth of new body tissue, especially reproductive tissue. It also claims to restore lost hair (I don?t know much about that though!), and treat acne (again, no idea!). It can also be useful for menopausal women by rebalancing the hormones

It works by being a diuretic, hence the bladder bits, a hormonal tonic, supporting the organs of the endocrine system, and a nutritive tonic.

It inhibits the conversion of testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which is harmful to the prosta
te cells. It stops estrogens effects on the prostate, and reduces the growth action factors which encourage the prostate tissue to enlarge.

A 1998 American report showed SP was just as effective as the standard prescribed drug, and in Finland and Germany , doctors describe SP as their first choice is treating prostate problems.

The tincture is usually taken twice a day, with five -ten drops in a glass of water. Different problems require different doses, so individual advice should be sought. It is very powerful, and only small amounts are needed.

How do I know all about Saw Palmetto? Well, my husband took it after being told his sperm count was so low he would never father a child. He took it for three months, and I conceived three months later! The second child was conceived after him again taking the saw Palmetto for three months! That?s all the proof I need, thank you very much!
