Advantages: Cheap and simple remedy

Disadvantages: None

One of the side effects, and believe me it is only one of a zillion, of having food allergies and intolerances is the effect it has on your overall digestion.

I take digestive enzymes, but they don't help the bloating and the pain. Until now, however there was little I could do, as the tablets I had see that could help, were in gelatine shells -and knowing where gelatine comes from- well let's just say No thank you- I would rather suffer.

I then found Bisodol which has a three way action - rapid relief from acid indigestion, heartburn, and trapped wind. They are peppermint in flavour and can be sucked or chewed. You wouldn't call the taste delicious, but it is certainly palatable.

They are made of calcium carbonate, a light magnesium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate. These ingredients are all antacids and neutralise the acid in the stomach, thus giving relief from your discomfort.

They should not be taken by anyone under twelve and anyone who is pregnant should get their Doctor's permission. As always if symptoms persist see a medic.

The dosage is one or two tablets as required. I tend to just take one, unless I am in real discomfort and it does help me.

The box of 100 tablets cost me £2.69 in Sainsburys, but they were on a discount offer- they would normally be just over £3.

Inside the box there are 5 tubes of 20 tablets, making them very easy to carry out with you or away on holiday.

When I bought mine the use by date was just under three years away- so I doubt buying one hundred will be a false economy.

My hope is that you never need to use this product, but should the event arise- at about 3p a tablet- you will be glad you knew about them.

Summary: For one of those occasions when the body needs help.
