Boots Antiseptic Cream
Boots antiseptic cream is a cheaper alternative to the named brand Germolene and Savlon. I am always looking for ways to save money and this includes buying cheaper alternatives. I was stocking up on essentials in Boots the other day on a bonus points weekend (£10 worth of extra points when you spend £50) and I bought some of this antiseptic cream.
Antiseptic cream is one of those things we have to keep in our house. Once you hurt/ burn yourself you need to put it on straight away so it is too late (well-not as ideal) to go and buy it after the incident! Therefore I try and make sure we have at least one tube in the cupboard at all times.
This antiseptic cream is 60g for £1.99, from Boots, obviously! It comes in a blue cardboard box (which is recyclable) and inside in a blue tube. The tube is a metally type of tube, but it is easy to squeeze the insides out and even get the very last bit out of the end (a rolling pin will help if you get stuck). The end is a screw top white lid, and it has a pierceable end so that it stays fresh until you start using it.
The cream itself is white and has a smooth even consistency. The cream smells very distinctive, it is very medically and has that clear antiseptic scent. It is the type of smell I can imagine a lot of people not liking. I personally don't mind it though.
The cream is quite cool and feels nice to apply to your skin. It is very soothing and soft. You can either rub it into your skin or you can leave it to sit on top. It is more effective the longer you leave it on your skin, so it depends what is convenient for you.
The cream is ideal for burns, sores, rashes, spots, scars etc. I am not a doctor, so please don't take my personal advice and instead read the instructions very carefully.
Recently I used this cream on my scars after an operation. They didn't get infected, and the redness reduced very quickly, the skin became more even and they felt much less sore. I am pretty sure it reduced my risk of scarring too.
Even more recently (earlier tonight when I was cooking the dinner) I burnt my finger on an oven tray and it was so sore. Straight after I took my finger out from under the cold water I coated it in antiseptic cream and have been topping it up all night. I know that this will make it heal much quicker, and avoid horrible peeling and a dark mark.
Everyone should have this in their cupboard-especially if they are as accident prone as me!
Summary: Keep some for emergencies.
