Boots Bite and Sting Hydrocortisone Cream
I always like to have some of this cream for the summer months and especially when abroad as the mosquitos seem to feast on myself and Little Miss.
--What this medicine is for?--
This is advertised as being for the relief of swelling, itching and irritation caused by insect bites and stings.
--Product and Packaging...--
The cream comes packaged in a small box with brief information on the back of the box, but inside there are full instructions and information about the product. Inside the box is a small 10g tube with a screw on/off lid. When I unscrew the lid I find that to dispense the cream I have to invert the lid and pierce the foil covering the cream. Once done, its easy to get the cream out (maybe too easy when the tube is new). A tiny little squeeze and out it comes. The cream itself is white and does have a very faint smell which is hardly noticeable, and which I can describe only as medicinal; not unpleasant though. The cream is quite thick, rather like a decent moisturising cream and is easy to apply although only a little is required to make sure it is fully absorbed otherwise a lot sits on the skin. Once applied, it is nice and cooling and almost immediately gives some relief from the itch.
--How to Use the cream...--
Check the tube seal is not broken before first and if it has been broken the cream should not be used.. Apply a very small amount to the skin and massage into the affected area. The cream should be used once or twice a day for 2 or 3 days and is suitable only for adults and children age 10 years and over. If symptoms get worse or do not go away within 3 days, talk to a pharmacist or doctor.
The usual precautions and warnings apply such as:
* Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
* Use by the date on the end flap of the carton.
* Don't use f you are allergic to hydrocortisone or pregnant
* Do not use on the eyes, and face or on broken or infected skin
--Price and Availability...--
The cream costs £3.89 and is available instore at Boots and online at www.boots.com
The cream does give some relief when the itch of an insect bite hits, and for us has been suitable for all the family without any adverse effects. It is easy to apply and because a little goes a very long way its very cost effective and lasts for ages. It doesn't provide all day relief as it cant be applied very often so we found the best time to apply was post shower, to allow it to sink into the skin.
Effective for instant relief which did last a couple of hours before the itch continued!!
