The idea with bronchial cough medicines is that they break up the phlegm on your chest so you can get rid of it. so the weird thing about this cough mixture is it is supposed actually to make you cough more, in a funny sort of way.

hey are very good if you have that sort of cough which is the leftover of a cold where stuff is sitting on your chest. The point with this cough mixture is, don't take it if you have a dry tickly cough you want to suppress.

It comes in a really old-fashioned bottle and looks like something your great aunt Mabel would use.

This one is a very thick rather dark brownish sticky mixture which pours really slowly onto the spoon. It smells vaguely unpleasant. It is so thick it seems a bit difficult to use properly.

But the taste is, I have to say, pretty awful. Not sweet and cherry flavoured like the cough medicines of your children. Oh no. This is a real man's cough mixture. You'd have to be seriously ill to want to take some. And it definitely comes in to the category of "if it tastes this bad, it must be doing you good."

After taking the recommended dose for three days I must say the cough was much better. And I know you can't ever be sure if something would have got better anyway, I think it did some good,as it always felt better within half an hour of taking it and by the time I was due another dose I was feeling all clogged up again.

I paid £2.99 for a 150ml bottle. But it has sat in back of the cupboard for a while.

I wonder why?
