Cajeput is an excellent treatment for skin complaints and respiratory troubles but it needs to be handled with great care. In short you should make sure that you know what you're doing before you use this essential oil. Read the instructions and consult a qualified aromatherapist if you aren't sure. Cajaput is a lovely oil for inhaling when you have a cold. It is from the same family of plants as Eucalyptus but is not as strong smelling or penetrative. Cajaput has a lovely medicinal aroma that makes you feel that it must be doing you good. Cajaput has both anti-viral and anti-bacterial qualities and as such it can fight off any secondary infections that arise from colds as well as the cold itself. It is best used a steam inhalation, but not at night as it is a stimulant and may keep you awake. It should also not be applied direct to the skin as it can cause irritation.
