Cipramil keeps my husband happy. September last year was the beginning of a downward spiral for my husband, We had major building work start on our house we could not use the kitchen so had to cook in the sitting room, we has brick dust everywhere. His mother became seriously ill had heart attacks we had to travel 2 hrs each way to visit her, his school went under special measures the head of the school left and behaviour of pupils and work was impossible he took time of work and went to Dr who prescribed Cipramil and gave home 3 months sick leave from school. Life was hard. It’s a little better now. Let me tell you of Cipramil it is an anti depressant available on prescription Cipramil allows more Seratonin to be got in the brain. Seratonin is the chemical in the brain, which makes us, feel happy and that all is well. This medicine comes in pill form it is a very small white pill it comes in a blister pack of a months supply. My husbands pill has 20 mg but it can be prescribed at different amounts when he is ready to come of the drug he will have a reduced amount rather than coming straight of the drug. There are some side effects to this drug some worse in some people than others these might be sickness, feeling dizzy, headaches sleep problems, rashes, itchiness, loss of libido, fast heartbeat, on rare occasions this drug might cause muscle pain or convulsions feelings of suicide and, self harm. Fortunately my husbands suffer few of these effects. He does get more headaches than he used to and his sex drive has certainly lowered. But I can make do without much loving if he is getting better and yes he seems to be at one stage he could not face his class now he can and he is teaching again looking for an easy way out but there does not seem to be one. Things do not seem to bother him so much and he is less passionate about things so he drugs do seem to be working. A word of warning if you are prescribed these
make sure you do not miss a pill he did one day and he went into a very deep depression today he was late getting to the dr’s for his repeat prescription they were closed he took his last pill this morning we went to a Lloyds pharmacy and they gave him 2 pills and told him to go see them when he got his prescription Monday and they would give him the pills – 2 we were relived as we had visions of us waiting at the hospital for help as there was no way we wanted to go through the experiences he had when he missed a pill. Eventually when the Dr thinks he can cope they will reduce the strength of medication and wean him of them. Thanks for reading Mary

- 27/11/08 Good for you for being able to talk about this difficult situation. Depression and other mental illnesses in this country have very poor press; we need people like you who raise awareness by sharing their own experiences. |

A couple of years ago my mum and dad were having an extension done and like you, they couldn't use the kitchen and everywhere was a mess. During this time, my gran had a nasty fall and needed a hip replacement operation. My mum ended up getting ill from the stress of it all. She still has to take some mild antidepressants (not sure which ones) and she suffers from very bad headaches and also has difficulty sleeping :o( |
